Inside the Desert: Katie Aselton Discusses Her Bold New Romantic Drama “Magic Hour”

**Katie Aselton* has long been a powerhouse in the world of independent cinema and television. Whether audiences know her from her hilarious, standout run on the hit comedy series The League*, or her extensive work both in front of and behind the camera in the indie film space, Aselton’s resume is packed with dynamic, memorable projects.

Her latest creative triumph is the new romantic drama Magic Hour, which officially opened in theaters on May 15, 2026. A South by Southwest (SXSW) official selection, the film stars Aselton and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) as Charlie and Erin, a couple who escape to the desert to navigate a challenging and unexpected new phase of their relationship.

Not only does Aselton star in the film, but she also directed it and co-wrote the screenplay with her husband, acclaimed filmmaker Mark Duplass. Produced under their Duplass Brothers Productions banner, Magic Hour has been praised by critics as a “refreshingly honest love story” filled with daring twists and exceptional performances.
