Understanding Revenue Cloud Licensing

A slight deviation from ‘hard-core technical under the hood‘ articles is a trip to the licensing world. This is not as simple as assigning it on a system and forgetting about it. It goes way back, a proper licensing strategy is like a foundation of the application design and architecture. Choosing a wrong license would impact not only the feature delivery but also incur additional costs.

Thus understanding the available licenses and how to use them effectively is essential.

Luckily, there are only two main licenses in Revenue cloud.

Revenue Cloud Growth — This is an entry level license. It is catered to people who want to get started on Revenue Cloud. It provides features for product, pricing and order management features. It provides features for product configuration, catalog management, product pricing, CPQ, Order and Asset management.

Revenue Cloud Advanced — This is a full-blown license. It helps us use and realize the power of the revenue cloud completely. It provides features of the basic Revenue Cloud Growth license. It also supports order decomposition, management and orchestration (supporting one single order to be broken down into suborders for different suppliers or to be delivered collectively), Contracts, Billing Schedules, Revenue Management Intelligence and Agentforce for revenue management.

I initially expected a few more licensing options from Salesforce to make it complex. Maybe they will introduce new licenses in future depending on the market need (Salesforce forward looking statement!).

For now, we have only two licenses, one basic and another advanced for all features. These licenses have multiple permission sets associated with them. We will look into permission sets in the next article.
