Living on a Small Island in Japan:What My Everyday Life Really Looks Like

Hi ! I’m Manami, a mom of three living on a small island in Japan.

When people think of Japan, they often imagine busy cities like Tokyo or Osaka. But my everyday life is very different. My family lives on a quiet island surrounded by the sea, where life moves at a slower pace.

One of the biggest differences is transportation. When we need to visit a hospital or go to larger stores, we take a ferry to the mainland. It takes more time than driving to a nearby town, and the weather can sometimes affect our plans. Living on an island means learning to be flexible.

Even with those challenges, I love living here. My children can grow up surrounded by nature. We can see the ocean almost everyday, enjoy beautiful sunsets, and spend time outdoors together. It reminds me to appreciate the simple moments in life.

Of course, island life isn’t always easy. Shopping options are limited, and we can’t always buy what we need right away. Sometimes we have to wait for deliveries or plan our shopping trips carefully.

Still, I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. Living on a small island has taught our family to slow down, enjoy nature, and value time together.
