Stephanie Mills continues to have a voice. Her voice has resonated and purred ever since her Broadway debut in The Wiz 48 years ago. As I sit and listen to The Wiz Broadway soundtrack, the richness of her voice touches your soul.

Why did we see Black versions of the ‘American’ classics? We wanted to relate to the storytelling, the fantasy, the elation, and the courage of the wonderful books.

The Wizard of Oz is no exception. We wanted to be included in a cast that portrayed our talents, our world, our soul, and our struggles.

With the creation of The Wiz, Black America solidified our place on Broadway. Thank you, Stephanie Mills!
