Introduction Science has always relied on institutions to safeguard and advance knowledge. The Royal Society in the 17th century, major universities in the 19th, and international journals in the 20th century all shaped the scientific enterprise.
Today, these institutions face unprecedented pressure: political capture, corporate influence, and the disruptive speed of AI-driven research. Applied Self-Evolving Science (ASES) proposes not only a new paradigm of science but also the institutions needed to sustain it.
The Weakness of Current Institutions
- Opaque Peer Review: Editorial processes remain unaccountable.
- Corporate Dependence: Funding and sponsorship shape research agendas.
- Publishing Inequality: Access is concentrated in high-cost journals and a small set of countries.
- AI Challenges: Traditional systems are too slow to cope with AI-generated knowledge at scale.
These weaknesses reveal the urgent need for structures that are enforceable, transparent, and globally fair.
Institutions Proposed by ASES
