Grew up amongst wolves, misidentified them as saviors. Fidelity poured out in plenty. Forgave their transgressions. Convinced that fault lay within me. Personality fractured. Embodied two versions of me. Sadly, the authentic self was showcased to my abusers. Unnerving them even more, I continued to shine brightly, refusing to dim my light. Others saw a reticent version.

I was deeply respected, praised for patience in the outside world. But vociferated about the lack thereof within the four walls. No words escaped my mouth. Not a whisper, for maybe I knew I lived among hyenas where reasons never stayed.

Confusion filled my mind. I sank into deeper corners of myself. To obliterate for their happiness. I was indoctrinatedinto accepting their version of me. I was beaten into submission for no fault of mine. They prided themselves on the cruelty. I, an outlet for their unhealed trauma. Beaten to submission for their vanity. I accepted the labels of my people.

Sought for acceptance, and eager to please them. Fulfilled the unreasonable tasks assigned unquestionably They made sure I stayed isolated. To delay my transformation Into the person I was destined to be.

A fairy tale enthusiast, I failed to notice the obvious resemblance. I was Cinderella. who upheld the belief that she wasn’t beautiful. I was Rapunzel. who spent years locked up in a tower giving away pieces of my youth and life. I was Sleeping Beauty. who trusted everyone and happily touched the spindle.

My life, a Truman Show. Failed to recognize the actors. Was oblivious to the resemblance with Sonny in I, Robot. Who struggles to find purpose for his creation. Cheered loudly when he found his calling. Unaware, my path was similar to him.

After draining my life force. They discarded me like tissue paper. Confident, I wouldn’t be able to pick up the broken pieces of myself. It was then I embraced healing. Understanding that I needed it. To break the chains that bound me.

I stood at a crossroads, alone, abandoned. Left to fend for myself. I silently showed up for myself. I took my first steps to self-care, holding God’s hand. No tears left my eyes. No curse left my lips. I just worked like a zombie. Trying to deal with the aftermath of my tsunami.

My energy snatchers watched from afar. Visibly annoyed at my defiance. Building from scratch, my sanity. Tried hard to shatter me. I refused to be shaken like a branch. I prayed and at times cried for the loss of my innocence to be reborn as a person who recognises darkness.

Consoled by God himself. I released the devils within. disguised as fear, low confidence, self-sabotage,overthinking. I let them go one by one and found myself becoming stronger like the sun.

My healing, a work in progress. Still, my saboteurs watched in disdain at my mini-transformation. I didn’t give up. Showed up for me day in and day out. Until their noise no longer stirred me.

Soon something shifted, and their eyes reflected fear. I credited it to the Divine’s grace. Now my aura blinded them. They hung their heads in shame. And watched me from afar. At last leaving me alone and not jabbing me.

I sighed and looked up at God. “Was that the way to handle them? I wish I had known about it earlier.” God smiled and replied, “Welcome home!” I knew at that moment I was in safe hands and on the right path. I am work in progress. Still haven’t decided whether I could embrace enlightenment, the last stage in healing.

Identifying that one needs healing is the first step towards freedom as many stay chained to hopelessness. Their fear imprisons them, enslaving them to people, situations, and places. Once you wake up from your slumber, healing is organic and meteoric. Sit back and watch their house of cards crumble while your abode grows from the ground up.
