On September 10, 2025, I read Adéla Valčíková’s piece on Medium titled “Nameless, Pronoun-less — The art of saying nothing clearly.” The text revealed how the Czech language opens a space for expression through ambiguity. A language without subjects, without names — yet with a clear conscience. It felt less like a linguistic style, more like a strategy of protection. The rhythm of the writing, the mist between the words, sparked an idea in me.

So I left a comment:

‘’The savior has been found. Let all dissenting voices around the world write in the Czech language. That way, no one can be easily accused for what they’ve written. The mystery this language offers will protect the texts — especially journalists. Because this piece is not just a linguistic analysis, it’s a proposal for refuge. A language that erases names, hides subjects, but leaves conscience exposed. The Czech language may soon become a problem for oppressive regimes. A language, in such a short space, could hardly be described more beautifully. Thank you for this valuable piece.’’ MY

Adéla Valčíková kindly responded to my comment:

‘’That would be funny to see Czech as the new world language! I wouldn’t say it’s the hardest, but it’s definitely among the more complex ones… and some letters in our alphabet are basically walking trauma for beginners :) And yes, I can confirm, during the socialist regime, our language really was a weapon. Through vagueness, ambiguity, and especially absurdity and humor, people shared their views against the regime right under its nose.’’

After reading her reply, the idea turned into a quiet call. And I asked myself: Why not. Let a time frame be set. For a certain period, let critical essays and publications be written in Czech.

Let anyone who wishes publish their words in this language. It would be a way to respond to global pressures and powers — through another path. A form of awareness. A beginning of a collective movement. In honor of those who were persecuted simply for writing what they thought, and in defense of press freedom.

Just imagine: one morning you wake up, and news from all around the world is being published in Czech… Hundreds of outlets, thousands of words — yet no one can be directly accused. Everyone hears.

And perhaps the ambiguity offered by a language could become the clearest echo of conscience. If international media organizations hear this idea and act on it, why not.

Maybe one day, this proposal will become a collective mind.
