We like to comfort ourselves with the lie that every human being carries a scale of right and wrong inside their chest. We call it a conscience. We treat it like it’s a universal birthmark.
But then you read the news. You see what they did. The casual, monstrous violence inflicted on the helpless. The kind of cruelty that makes your blood run hot with a mix of fury and disgust. And you are forced to stare into the gutter of reality.
You look at them and you have to ask: Is there really anything left inside?
Don’t give me the excuse that their conscience is just asleep. Sleepers wake up when you shake them. These people don’t wake up. Their conscience didn’t just drift off; it was systematically executed. They strangled it, day by day, until their insides turned into a thick, unfeeling callus. They swallowed their own humanity just to feed whatever twisted demon they harbor.
But there is a worse, far more sickening truth to face.

What if they never had one to begin with? What if some people are just born defective? Hollow skin suits with nothing but cold, empty air where a soul should be.
That is the real horror. They don’t look like monsters. They look exactly like us. They sit next to you on the train. They buy groceries. They smile at the cashier. And while you lie awake at night, tossing and turning over some minor, stupid mistake you made years ago, these bastards are snoring peacefully in the dark—completely unbothered by the blood still drying beneath their fingernails.

We must stop searching for humanity where it does not exist. Stop waiting for the remorse that will never come, and stop assuming everyone shares the same capacity to feel. The terrifying truth of our world is not that evil is loud and deformed. It is that it walks among us on two legs, wearing a coat, perfectly at home in the quiet emptiness of its own skin.
