Juneteenth quilt completed

Today, I finished a quilt that has been nine years in the making. I first started on it while in an artist residency in Blonduos, Iceland.

One panel draws attention to the the experiences that the anthropologist-novelist Zora Neale Hurston had in Honduras in the late 1940s. I addressed this aspect of her life in my 2023 book.

More than anything, the quilt captures the strength of a people, past and present. I am so glad I finished it in time for Juneteenth.
