The day after

I was “cautiously optimistic”, to quote my oncologists. My personal fate fared better than our country did yesterday. But it also left me with a laundry list of “pre-existing conditions” that could very well be the end of me, depending on how this new development affects our healthcare system. I am afraid.

I wonder if the 72 million people who voted for that demented, lying felon realize that COVID is considered a “pre-existing condition”, or that it means that when the Affordable Care Act is systemically dismantled, any new condition they may develop after having the virus will be an out-of-pocket expense for them. They’ll find out. And unfortunately, a whole lot of us will, too.

All of the previous election deniers have suddenly gone silent. Weird, because it’s been noted that all of the accusations that the MAGA GOP has been throwing out there are nothing more than thinly veiled admissions of guilt. They cheat, so they expect everyone to cheat. People always measure others based on their own yardstick. I’m not anticipating any investigations into voter fraud for this election, but maybe there should be.

Meanwhile, as a female without a viable uterus, a plethora of health issues, and the danger of my own Social Security benefits disappearing before I can even start to collect them, I expect that I will be working twice as hard for half the money for the remainder of my life, until I die at my desk, angry and disenfranchised.

Never mind the global consequences as the US potentially leaves NATO, expands tariffs, rejects all further support of Ukraine, kills every law that protects the Earth and wildlife, starts drilling for oil again, and falls into lockstep with Putin. What have we done?

Our country is broken. We deserve what we voted for. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
