Top names on leaderboard at PGA Tour’s Procore Championship at Silverado Resort

The early leaderboard at the PGA Tour’s Procore Championship on Friday at Silverado Resort in Napa had some very recognizable and well-known names.

There’s Ben Griffin, who backed up an opening round 64 on Thursday with a 66 in the second round. He’s at 14-under-par 130 through 36 holes.

There’s Russell Henley, who also went low for the second straight day, shooting 68. He’s at 11-under 133.

There’s J.J. Spaun, who fired a 68 and is at 9-under 135.

There’s also Scottie Scheffler, the World №1 ranked player, who had it going, shooting 68.

They are connected by the fact that they are all on the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team.

“It’s cool. Rooting for everybody to get their game where they want it going into the Ryder Cup and hope everybody has a good weekend,” said Henley.

Ten members of the Ryder Cup team are at Silverado, playing in the Procore Championship, a $6 million FedExCup Fall event, on the par-72, 7,138-yard North Course. They are here preparing, competing, getting the work in to stay sharp and game-ready before they head east to face Europe in the Ryder Cup, Sept. 23–28, at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.

“I’d say everyone on the team’s just really excited to kind of get some competitive reps in, get ready for Bethpage,” said Griffin. “But every single guy on that team’s trying to win this golf tournament, I can tell you that. Whether or not they say it or not, they’re pretty focused on this week.

“I’m pulling for all the guys to play well. We want to build some momentum going into the Ryder Cup. I pull for a lot of guys out here, but especially the Ryder Cup teammates this week. I want them all to play well.”

Also, at Silverado — now in its 12th year of hosting PGA Tour events — is Keegan Bradley, the U.S. Ryder Cup Team Captain. Bradley was watching second-round play from his seat in a golf cart.

Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Harris English and Collin Morikawa are others on the Ryder Cup team who are playing at the Procore Championship.

“We talk a lot behind the scenes of how much this means to us and they are willing to do whatever it takes to be prepared,” said Bradley. “This is something that we wanted. When I was named captain, this was something that I wanted, but they wanted it more than I did. This made it really easy.

“When the players take accountability for their team, good things happen. They really all love golf, too, so what an opportunity for them. They’re all staying together this week. They have a great time. For me, I’m stressed out about playing, I’m practicing. They’re like another week to hang and get a team bonding. Things happen a lot easier when the players want to do it. They’re a good group; they want to be here.

“I think the players knew it was important. This Ryder Cup means everything to them.”

One of the biggest crowds for a PGA Tour event on a Friday at Silverado was on hand, making their way around the course. It was cloudy with temperatures in the mid-60s with no wind at 10 a.m.

“It’s a small town, kind of a sleepy event, but having the team here has brought a lot of people from the community out,” said Spaun. “It was great to have a couple hundred people out following our group today and yesterday. Hopefully that will set the tone for the rest of the week.”

Griffin had a bogey-free round, with six birdies. He hit 10-of-14 fairways, 16-of-18 greens, and had 29 putts.

Griffin was tied for second after the first round.

“Trying to hit a lot of fairways and simple stuff. Literally trying to give myself as many birdie looks as possible,” said Griffin. “Especially here because the fairways are so tight. It’s really important to kind of keep it in the fairway. I’m trying to stay confident, stay motivated and keep the pedal down.”

Henley had six birdies and two bogeys on his card. He hit 8-of-14 fairways and 15-of-18 greens. He also had 30 putts.

Henley was tied for fourth after the first round.

“I’ve been making a lot of putts. I got off to a really hot start today. I feel like I’m hitting a lot of fairways, and when I do, I’m able to attack a little bit,” said Henley.

“I think I need to clean up some of the short game stuff. I’ve had a couple chips that I didn’t get up and down. Probably work on that a little bit. Just stick with the process.”

Spaun had a bogey-free round, making four birdies. He hit 9-of-14 fairways and 14-of-18 greens. He also had 29 putts.

The 2025 Procore Championship is the first event of the FedExCup Fall. It’s a group of seven tournaments, played after the Tour Championship, that finalizes eligibility for the 2026 PGA Tour Season. Winners of events during the FedExCup Fall receive 500 FedExCup points, Official World Golf Ranking points, a two-year PGA Tour exemption (exempt through 2026) and invitations to The Sentry, The Players Championship and PGA Championship.

Scheffler is an 18-time PGA Tour winner and has two Masters victories. He leads all players with five wins, which includes the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, this season.
