From “Youth Gone Wild” to “Gargoyle of the Garden State”: The Evolution of Rachel Bolan

For over thirty-five years, **Rachel Bolan has been the rhythmic and creative engine behind Skid Row*, a band that redefined the hard rock landscape. With over 20 million albums sold worldwide and a legacy that includes the first-ever heavy metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 (Slave to the Grind*), Bolan has helped pen some of the most enduring anthems in rock history, including, “Youth Gone Wild,” “18 and Life” and “I Remember You.”

Despite four decades of multi-platinum success and global touring, the New Jersey native is finally stepping into the spotlight with his first-ever solo project, aptly titled BOLAN. His debut album, Gargoyle of the Garden State, is set for release on June 12, 2026, via earMUSIC.

Produced by the multi-Grammy winner Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Superdrag), the record is a deeply personal exploration of Bolan’s musical DNA. While the grit of the Garden State remains the foundation, the tracks veer into unexpected territories, including Brit-pop, Glam, and New Wave. One of the album’s most talked-about moments is a reimagined cover of Oasis’ “Rock And Roll Star,” featuring Skid Row’s own Scotti Hill.

In our April 2026 conversation, Bolan dived into the “soul” of the record, the influence of his punk rock roots, and the collaborative spirit that brought a star-studded guest list to the project.
