How good are you with your Instincts?
Do you ever stop and think about your instincts?
If not, maybe it is time to.
I have often wondered how many mistakes I could have avoided if I had simply listened to that little voice inside me. That feeling that tells me something is not right, even when I cannot explain why.
Sometimes we call it intuition. Sometimes we call it a gut feeling. Whatever the name is, I think it exists for a reason.
There have been moments in my life when I felt uncomfortable about a person or a situation. I could not explain it with logic, so I ignored it. I convinced myself that I was overthinking or being too dramatic.
Later, I realised my instincts were trying to tell me something.
Of course, our instincts won’t always be right. Fear, anxiety, and past experiences can sometimes make us misjudge situations and sometimes become emotional and think emotionally. But I also believe there are moments when our mind notices small details before we consciously understand them.
Maybe that is why we get that strange feeling without knowing the reason.
As a woman, I think many of us have experienced this.
Sometimes you can sense it when someone is looking at you with bad intentions or when a situation does not feel safe. Whose presence is negative. There’s no proof, but something inside you tells you to leave or be more careful.
Many ignore that feeling because they do not want to seem rude, dramatic, or judgmental.
But I often wonder: What is the harm in being a little more careful if it protects us? Not every instinct is a warning, but not every warning should be ignored either. I think one part we often miss is learning the difference between instinct and fear.
Fear can come from past pain, stress, or overthinking. Instinct is usually quieter. It does not always shout. Sometimes it just sits there and keeps telling you to pay attention.
That is why understanding ourselves matters so much. The more we observe our thoughts and reactions, the more we begin to notice what fear is and what intuition is.
Even outside of safety, instincts matter.
Have you ever noticed how successful people rarely rush into important decisions? They ask questions. They gather information. They think before they act.
I do not believe they rely only on instinct, but I do think they respect it. If something does not feel right, they do not ignore that feeling. Instead, they pause and try to understand where it is coming from.
Maybe that is something all of us can learn.
The next time you get a feeling about a person, a decision, or a situation, do not dismiss it immediately.
Pause for a moment. Ask yourself, “Why am I feeling this way?” Maybe there is a reason. Maybe there is not.
But taking a moment to understand yourself is never a waste of time.
Our instincts may not always give us the full answer, but they often give us the first warning. They notice what our mind has not yet understood. And if we learn to listen before we dismiss that quiet voice, we may save ourselves from pain, regret, or choices we were never meant to make.
