📘 Java Learning Journey — Day 1

Welcome to my Java Learning Journey! 👋

If you’re also starting your programming journey, I hope this series helps you learn, stay motivated, and grow alongside me.

This series documents my experience as I learn Java, build real-world projects, and work toward becoming a backend developer.

I’m not an expert — I’m simply sharing what I learn, the questions I ask, the mistakes I make, and the projects I build. My hope is that this journey will also help other beginners who are just getting started.

Before I wrote my first line of Java code, I had one question that kept coming back to me.

A Question That Stayed With Me

“Why should I learn Java when AI can already write code?”

This question kept coming back whenever I thought about starting my software development journey.

Everywhere I looked, people were talking about AI writing code, building applications, and making developers more productive. At the same time, I saw discussions about newer languages like Rust and Go, while Python seemed to dominate AI and machine learning.

It made me wonder:

Am I choosing the right language?

Instead of jumping straight into tutorials, I spent time reading articles, watching videos, exploring backend roadmaps, and browsing job descriptions. I wanted to understand why Java continues to be recommended before investing months in learning it. I wanted to understand why so many developers still recommend Java.

What I Found During My Research

I’m still a beginner, so these aren’t conclusions from years of experience. They’re observations that helped me decide to learn Java.

Java Still Appears Everywhere

While exploring job postings for backend developers, I noticed Java appeared repeatedly, often alongside Spring Boot, SQL, REST APIs, and cloud technologies.

That made me curious.

If AI is advancing so quickly and newer languages are gaining popularity, why are so many companies still looking for Java developers?

AI Can Help Me Write Code, But I Still Need to Understand It

One thing I realized early is that AI can explain concepts, generate code, and even help debug programs.

But if I don’t understand Java fundamentals, I won’t know:

• Whether the generated code is correct.
• Why an error occurs.
• How to modify the solution for my own project.

For me, learning Java isn’t about competing with AI — it’s about learning how to work with it effectively.

Java Seems to Have a Strong Place in Backend Development

From the articles and videos I explored, Java continues to be recommended for enterprise backend development because of its mature ecosystem and frameworks like Spring Boot.

I also noticed that many learning roadmaps still begin with Core Java before moving into backend technologies.

That gave me confidence that investing time in Java is still worthwhile.

Every Language Has a Purpose

While researching, I also learned that different languages are popular for different reasons.

• Python is widely used in AI and data science.
• JavaScript is essential for modern web development.
• Go and Rust are becoming more common for certain backend systems.

Rather than trying to learn everything at once, I decided to focus on one language first and build a strong foundation.

For me, that language is Java.

Why I Chose Java

I’m not choosing Java because it’s the only good programming language.

I’m choosing it because it aligns with my current goal of becoming a backend developer.

Right now, I want to understand programming fundamentals, build real projects, and eventually learn technologies like Spring Boot, Hibernate, and React.

Once I have that foundation, learning other languages will become much easier.

This Is Just the Beginning

I’m not writing this as someone with years of industry experience.

I’m writing it as someone who’s learning every day.

This blog will document what I learn, the projects I build, the mistakes I make, and how my understanding changes over time.

Maybe, a year from now, I’ll come back to this article and see how much I’ve grown.

And that’s one of the most exciting parts of this journey.

Final Thoughts

When I first started researching, my biggest question was:

“Does learning Java still make sense in the age of AI?”

For me, the answer is yes.

Not because Java is the only language worth learning.

Not because AI can’t write code.

But because learning Java gives me the opportunity to understand how software is built, how backend systems work, and how to become the kind of software engineer I want to be.

This article is only Day 1 of that journey.
