When My Chiropractor Confirmed What I Didn’t Quite Believe: Your Brain Can Realign Your Spine

I stopped going to the chiropractor four years ago. Not because I didn’t need adjustments anymore — at least, that’s what I thought — but because I decided to try something radical: letting my brain do the work instead.

For years, I’d been on the weekly adjustment treadmill. My neck and thoracic spine kept slipping out of alignment, and every week I’d return to my chiropractor’s table for relief. The adjustments felt good in the moment, but the misalignment always came back. It was a cycle I’d accepted as just how my body worked.

Then I discovered Pain Reprocessing Therapy.

Now I’m a certified practitioner, trained in PRT, NLP, and Parts Work modalities like Internal Family Systems. I’ve helped clients recover from chronic pain conditions I once thought were permanent — fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, chronic fatigue syndrome — conditions I knew intimately because I’d been diagnosed with all of them myself.

But even as I watched my clients improve, even as my own pain diminished, there was a question that kept gnawing at me:

Was I just turning off the pain signal, or was something deeper actually healing?

The Experiment

I knew Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) could help the brain to stop sending false alarm pain signals. The science is clear on that. But what about structural issues? If my spine was genuinely misaligned, could my brain really fix that without physical intervention?

I decided to find out.

I stopped my weekly chiropractic visits and started applying PRT principles to myself instead. I worked on changing my belief patterns about what my body needed. I addressed the fear that without regular adjustments, something terrible would happen. I practiced the techniques I was teaching my clients.

At first, I was still in pain. My neck and back ached the way they always had. But after a couple of weeks of consistently applying PRT techniques — challenging the belief that I needed external fixes, reassuring my nervous system that I was safe — something shifted.

The pain faded. My back felt fine.

But I still wondered: had my spine actually realigned itself, or had my brain just stopped caring that it was misaligned?

Four Years Later: The Answer

Last month, my pelvis suddenly gave out. The pain was excruciating — different from anything I’d experienced before. I knew I needed help, so I went back to the same chiropractor I’d seen years ago.

She did a full evaluation.

And here’s what she told me: my neck and thoracic spine were completely aligned. No adjustments needed.

I sat there, stunned. Four years without a single adjustment, and my spine had settled back into proper alignment on its own.

She adjusted my pelvis — just once — and I left. I haven’t needed to go back for that either. What I’d learned through PRT was enough.

What This Means

This wasn’t just validation for me personally. It was proof of something I hadn’t been entirely sure was possible: that once your brain knows you’re safe, it doesn’t just stop sending pain signals. It can actually allow the body to restore itself structurally.

My spine had been stuck in a pattern — misalignment, adjustment, temporary relief, re-misalignment — for years. Not because my body was broken, but because my nervous system believed it needed constant intervention. Once I changed that belief, once my brain stopped treating my back as fragile and dangerous, my body did what it was designed to do: it healed.

The most incredible part? This work doesn’t require physical touch. I do all of my sessions over video. Because the healing isn’t happening on the adjustment table — it’s happening via the brain’s relationship with the body.

Beyond the Spine

The spinal realignment was the breakthrough that made me want to share this story, but it’s not the only thing that changed. The fibromyalgia, the chronic fatigue, the plantar fasciitis — all of it improved through this same approach. These weren’t separate conditions requiring separate treatments. They were all manifestations of the same root issue: a nervous system stuck in protective mode.

When I work with clients now, I combine Pain Reprocessing Therapy with Parts Work and NLP to help them understand what’s really happening in their bodies. We address the beliefs, the fears, the patterns that keep the nervous system on high alert. And when the brain finally gets the message that it’s safe, the body follows.

If This Resonates

I’m sharing this because I know how isolating chronic pain can be. I know what it’s like to feel dependent on external fixes, to wonder if you’ll ever feel normal again, to carry diagnoses that feel like life sentences.

If you’re stuck in a cycle of treatments that only provide temporary relief, if you’ve been told your pain is “just something you have to live with,” I want you to know: there might be another way.

Your brain is more powerful than you think. And sometimes, the most profound healing happens when we stop trying to fix the body and start listening to what it’s trying to tell us.

Important: This is my personal experience. Not all structural issues are reversible, and it’s essential to work with qualified medical professionals to understand and address your specific condition.
