The Day My Heart Knew Something I Didn’t

As If My Soul Recognizes a Presence My Eyes Haven’t Met Yet

I don’t know what’s happening to me today.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been carrying a heaviness inside me. The kind that sits quietly in your chest and follows you everywhere. I woke up with it, slept with it, and slowly started believing it would never leave.

But today feels different.

Nothing happened.

No message. No confession. No miracle.

Yet I’ve been smiling all day.

Not the kind of smile you force when someone asks if you’re okay. The kind that appears on its own. The kind that catches you off guard.

I find myself smiling at my thoughts. Smiling while doing absolutely nothing. Smiling at the sky, at random songs, at memories that aren’t even particularly special.

Everyone keeps asking me why.

I wish I knew.

The only way I can explain it is this:

It feels like someone is near.

Not beside me. Not someone I know.

Just… near.

As if somewhere in this world, someone is thinking of me while I think of them without knowing it.

It’s strange because I’ve never been the kind of person to believe in destiny. I’ve always thought people come and go. That every connection has an expiry date. That eventually everyone leaves.

Yet today, for some reason, my heart disagrees.

Today it feels like the universe is holding a secret from me.

Like there is a chapter I haven’t reached yet.

Like there is a person I haven’t met yet.

Like somewhere, somehow, a story is slowly making its way toward me.

Maybe I’m being ridiculous.

Maybe tomorrow this feeling will disappear and I’ll laugh at myself for writing all of this.

But right now, as I sit here with this unexplained smile on my face, I can’t ignore it.

I feel hopeful.

Not excited. Not happy. Not healed.

Hopeful.

The kind of hope that arrives quietly.

The kind that doesn’t knock on your door but slips through your window and sits beside you.

The kind that makes your heart whisper,

“Wait a little longer. Something beautiful is coming.”

And for the first time in a long time,

I believe it.
