Your Senses Are Not Showing You Reality — They’re Showing You What You Already Decided Is Real
Your eyes are lying to you right now.
Not because they’re broken. Because they’re working exactly as designed — confirming whatever your brain already decided is true.
This is not a metaphor. This is not spiritual philosophy dressed up as science. This is the actual mechanism running 90% of your experience, every single day, in your health, your money, your relationships, and every interaction you’ve had today.
Here’s the proof that should unsettle you.
Imagine you’re told a house is haunted before you walk in. You’ve never seen a ghost. You don’t even fully believe in them. But the moment you step inside, something shifts. You hear things. You see shadows. Your skin reacts. Your brain starts connecting dots that weren’t connected before.
Now ask yourself: what exactly changed?
Not the house. The house is identical to what it was before someone told you. What changed is the instruction your brain received. And the moment your brain received that instruction, your senses reorganized themselves to confirm it. They started filtering your experience — showing you the evidence, hiding the contradictions.
This is called confirmational bias. And it isn’t rare. It isn’t something that happens occasionally under extreme conditions.
It’s happening to you constantly.
There’s a more precise example.
A person believes they can lift 100kg. That’s their number — built from experience, comparison, the story they’ve been telling themselves for years. Now ask them to lift 110kg. They know it’s 110kg. They know it’s beyond their number. And they collapse.
Same person. Take away the number. Load the bar with 120kg without telling them. Let them lift it without their brain having the information.
They lift it.
The weight didn’t change. The muscle didn’t change. The only variable was what the brain believed before the attempt began.
Your brain will physically sabotage your body to protect a story it decided was true.
Now apply that to your finances. Your relationships. The conversation you’re afraid to have. The opportunity you convinced yourself wasn’t meant for you.
You aren’t failing because of circumstances. You’re failing because your senses are performing to match the script your brain wrote a long time ago.
Sanatana Dharma named this mechanism thousands of years before modern neuroscience confirmed it.
The negative confirmational bias — the fear-driven, greed-driven tendency of the mind that continuously reinforces suffering — is called Pravritti. The outward-moving force that takes every present moment and filters it through your accumulated wounds, past failures, and projections. It makes you live in a self-created hell while the actual world remains unchanged around you.
The positive confirmational bias — the intelligence-driven shift that reorganizes reality toward what you assume and hold as true — is called Nivritti. When you genuinely assume you have already achieved your goal and begin living from that space, your environment starts to reorganize itself around that assumption. People show up differently. Opportunities become visible that were always there. Your senses stop editing out the evidence that supports you.
Negative confirmational bias is hell. Positive confirmational bias is heaven. The same world. Two completely different experiences. Both generated entirely from inside.
Here’s what the self-help industry doesn’t tell you.
It will sell you positive thinking. Affirmations. Vision boards. Gratitude journals. The logic is sound: shift the bias, shift the experience. And to a point, it works. People genuinely improve their lives by learning to recognize Pravritti and consciously choosing Nivritti.
But both Pravritti and Nivritti are still just filters.
Even positive confirmational bias is a conditioned lens. You’re still experiencing a constructed version of reality — just a more functional, more pleasant one. The ceiling of positive thinking is a better life built inside the same fundamental limitation: you are still the one filtering.
The goal isn’t a better filter. The goal is to go beyond filtering entirely — to the direct, unconditioned experience of reality as it actually is.
This is called Anubhava.
And this is precisely where the ancient tradition parts ways with every modern system.
You cannot think your way to Anubhava.
Not through more positive thinking. Not through better affirmations. Not through years of meditation done in isolation. Every effort you make to transcend the filter is still being made by the filtered version of you. The mind cannot step outside itself by its own effort alone. This is not a limitation of your intelligence. It is the structural nature of the mechanism.
The tradition is explicit about what breaks the filter: the living transmission of a realized master.
Not a book. Not a technique. Not a concept absorbed through a screen. The direct connection with a guru who has himself gone beyond both Pravritti and Nivritti — whose seeing is completely unconditioned, absolutely free from confirmation, judgment, and the notions that limit your inner power.
In that transmission, something shifts that cannot be shifted by personal effort. The negative bias doesn’t just get managed — it gets uprooted. The filter doesn’t get replaced with a better filter. It dissolves.
There is a practice you can begin right now.
Sit quietly. Don’t try to stop your thoughts. Don’t try to create positive ones.
Instead — observe the one who is observing.
Watch the watcher. Notice the one inside you that is aware of your thoughts, your sensations, your reactions. That witness exists before the filter does. It is the part of you that has never once been touched by confirmational bias — positive or negative.
The more you establish yourself there, even for a few seconds, the more the grip of Pravritti loosens. Not because you fought it. Because you found the space that exists before it begins.
This is the doorway.
Your senses have been lying to you. Not out of malice. Out of loyalty to a story your brain decided was the truth.
The question worth sitting with today isn’t what you need to achieve or fix or improve.
It’s this: whose reality are you actually living in?
Yours — or the one your confirmational bias built for you ten years ago?
The SPH Nithyananda has been transmitting these consciousness technologies for decades through the living Kailasa tradition. The practices described here — including the shift from Pravritti to Nivritti and the direct experience of Anubhava — are available through initiated study with the living lineage.
