3 Steps To Follow When Installing Your First UPS

If you are an IT professional, the Uninterrupted Power Supply or UPS is literally everywhere.

Whether it’s a **comms room design** or a data center, nothing is fully complete without an effective UPS power system to take care of your regular and emergency needs.

So are you a newbie who wishes to make his/her first UPS purchase? Here are a few simple steps which you can follow to get the best outcomes:

1. First Of All, Know The Size You Need:

It is very important to size up the requirements and know the servers that are to be connected with the UPS. And though it is easy to match the server to a correct UPS model, if you do not possess any hardware knowledge, it is advised not to attempt the task.

You can call a good vendor or a **UPS power installation** service who would help you out in this.

UPS can generally be classified into three installation sizes which are:

· Small: These are low in capacity and usually power only a few desktops with a single server.

· Medium: These are designed to power more than a single server and need to be purchased only from a good IT equipment vendor.

· Large: These are selective UPSs which are available with only the manufacturers or some selected vendors.

Most of the server rooms generally consist of medium-sized UPSs.

2. Ensure The Perfect Location:

UPSs could be reasonably heavy and therefore it is essential to place them as low as possible. The best is, install them at the bottom-most sections of the racks.

UPSs also occur with adjustable rails, which make it easy for you to slip the UPS in or out of the server rack. However, use them only if the vendor offers free installation.

Installing them yourself will waste a lot of your time and especially when you have not attempted any such task before.

3. Preparation For The Installation:

Unless it’s a simple, miniature UPS you are installing, never attempt to install it all by yourself.

While you do so, remember that you are installing an electrical equipment which always has a chance of accident. Plus, it has very poor weight distribution, with the dense battery located at one end and metal edges on most of the sides.

Therefore, either do this is assistance of an expert or call the expert UPS installation servicemen to perform the job on your behalf.

Purchasing and installing your first UPS system is not child’s play. However, if you follow all the above points carefully and work with an expert, you have all the chances of succeeding in the job.
