There’s beauty in a broken glass

K-pop Demon Hunters (2025)

The day we are born, we are like a newly bought porcelain vase that’s very delicate and perfect. Since it’s expensive, it was always taken care of to avoid scratching and breaking it. But as time passed by, new people started to witness its beauty. Some are careful, but some are bold enough to touch it—curious what might happen. There are instances it almost fell. Luckily, some caught it, because for them that vase is valuable.

Its surroundings also changed because none in this world are permanent. The vase became dusty, and it looks weary. In a span of time, no one would stop by and appreciate its uniqueness, because a new one emerged that looked nothing like it. Especially, its cracks were visible, the patterns were fading, and it looked like it would crumble at any minute.

Like the porcelain vase, we were once defined as perfect and taught to be one. But too much perfection caused us to destroy ourselves — because it is our nature to earn scars and scratches from the battles we silently conquer. We weren’t in control of our own ‘patterns’ that are viewed as undesirable by society, and we tried our best to hide them.

Like you, I once dimmed my light to let others shine and shrank myself to fit in.

Because of that, I failed to notice my fragments that are being chipped away. I tried my best to conceal it because nobody will like me anymore; nobody will accept me for who I am. I chose to shut people out whenever they brought up ‘vulnerability.’ I forced myself to ignore it because I was never taught to be honest and just let people decide for me — even if it’s not fine at all.

For me, trusting someone means showing my demons, and I’m afraid they’ll be ashamed and will abandon me.

When I was completely shattered, I chose to look at the torn pieces; after all, it was beautiful because it once made me whole. A cracked porcelain vase doesn’t mean it can be revived back into its original form, oftentimes, we have to accept that there’s beauty in the brokenness of our existence.

And that makes us human, shattered and flawed, yet fearless enough to let the world know we are undefined.
