Using Multiple Post Processing Profiles and Reflection Probes

In this article, I’ll guide you through the process of employing multiple Post Processing Profiles and Reflection Probes to craft a dynamic environment for our game.

Multiple Reflection Probes

First, let’s alter our current Reflection Probe box width to 50%. To do this, select the Probe in the Hierarchy, navigate to the Reflection Probe section, and click on the edit icon.

Then, you can adjust its width by clicking and dragging in the Scene view.

We can create a sphere object with a metallic material to assess our Reflection Probe volume. You’ll notice how the reflection on the sphere changes when it’s both inside and outside of the Reflection Probe volume.

To generate another Reflection Probe, we can duplicate the current one and reposition it.

Now, modify the reflection settings of the new Reflection Probe according to your preference.

Multiple Post Processing Profiles

Much like Reflection Probes, we can utilize multiple Post Processing Profiles to establish varying atmospheres in different parts of the environment.

To create a Post Processing Profile, click the plus icon in the Hierarchy panel, and select Volume > Box Volume

A small box will appear in your scene

Resize and reposition it by clicking on the edit icon to fit a part of the room, then duplicate and resize it to fit another part of the room.

Also, ensure that “Is Trigger” is checked for both, or else your player won’t be able to enter these areas.

Choose one of the two Box Volumes and click “New” under the Volume section to create a new profile.

I’m going to create a bright, yellowish ambiance for the right half of the room by adjusting “Exposure” and “Lift, Gamma, Gain”.

Here are the detailed settings:

Additionally, you can adjust the “Blend Distance” settings to create a smooth transition between the two different parts as the camera moves between them.

For the other profile, we can repeat the process. In this case, I’ll create a dark ambiance by increasing the Fixed Exposure value.

Here’s our result.
