Friday

We replaced the entire system of the return fuel pipes of the genset. We also carried out its service, following due procedure.

Saturday

Early in the morning, MW and I left for Murang’a Teachers Training Institute along Thika Road, just past Kenol. Some weeks before, he together with Anto had installed a 100KVA generator. The principal wanted their old 60KVA Olympian generator to be connected into the grid, such that both gensets could be functional, with the option of choosing which to be operated.

Most of the job was done in the power room. Drilling of the ATS box, stripping and glanding of the cables, and terminating them into their positions, were among the tasks carried out.

More work was required on the old 60KVA. Its muffler and exhaust system had been disassembled, to increase its mobility in an attempt to create space for the new genset. Logically therefore, we had to reassemble these components for the generator to function correctly. The scope of work increased to welding them together (There was no welder to be hired!) and creating an exhaust wall through the stoned concrete wall.

I jacked the drill switch to the hammer position and rammed hard onto the white wall. The chips and stone bits darted all over. Occasionally, I’d encounter a stone so hard, that much more energy was used. MW finished it off, leaving a circular cavity, where the muffler’s head would rest, as the exhaust pipe hangs to the outside.

We left the site some minutes after 7pm, exhausted but satisfied with the functionality of both
