REGINA DELL INFERNO (QUEEN OF HELL) #14

A trip down hell’s lane, not a walk, not a journey, a dragging, the way destiny moves when it has already decided and is simply waiting for you to catch up.

I was a slave to hell’s will, bound not by chains but by belonging, the kind of captivity that feels like coming home because the door was always shaped like you.

As the vision faded, peeled back like burning paper at the edges, I came face to face with the king of hell.

Not in metaphor. Not in a dream. Face to face, breath to breath, ash between us like a witness.

Fear and pain accompanied me in his presence, old friends by now, faithful as shadows; they never left my side, even here, even now.

I knew. He knew. Hell knew.

That I had seen it all,

The glory, the fall, the war, the wound, the ancient beauty that became the ancient ruin.

I carried the whole story behind my eyes, and he could see it sitting there, recognized in me what hell had placed in me.

I saw the moment the fire entered into his eyes, not the fire of rage but the fire of recognition, the way a lock looks when the right key finally arrives.

He opened his mouth and chanted the old language of hell, words carved before words had alphabets, sounds that existed before sound had names

Words I couldn’t say and shouldn’t understand,

But hell had taken me as its own.

And so the ancient words flowed like balm to my soul, poured into every crack, every hollow, every place that pain had emptied out, filling them not with peace but with purpose, which is the only peace hell knows how to give.

The devil has been denied.

Not defeated in battle, not overthrown by force

But denied by the very kingdom he ruled, the way a body rejects what no longer serves it, the way a story outgrows its first narrator.

And as Diabolo raised his voice, ancient and enormous, a sound like the first fire, like the war cry of the first falling

Hell answered.

Not with silence. Not with submission.

With wrath.

The ground split its own seams. The fire lakes rose without being summoned. The demons with their magnificent wings folded them inward like a bow, like a court recognizing the arrival of something new.

The king laid dead in the ashes, in his home, returned to the very thing he had ruled.

Dust to dust means something different in hell; ash to ash means the throne is empty, means the kingdom is exhaling, means the waiting is over.

A new king was here.

Not appointed. Not crowned by ceremony or conquest.

Recognized.

Hell has found its own and marked its own, the way it had been marking her since,

Since the first slash,

Since the first surrender, since the first time I dined in brimstone and did not die.

Hell has found the devil incarnate,

Not the one who fell from heaven.

The one who rose from breaking.
