Chatham runs past William Campbell in Dogwood play

NARUNA, Va. — Senior Jaden Breedlove rushed for three touchdowns, sophomore quarterback Amare Word ran for two scores and threw for another and Chatham ran past William Campbell 41–0 in Dogwood District action Friday night.

It didn’t take long for Chatham (3–2, 1–0 Dogwood) to crack the scoreboard as it scored on its drive of the game. After the Cavaliers’ defense forced a turnover on downs on William Campbell’s opening drive, the ‘Cavs put together a four-play, 69-yard scoring drive capped by Breedlove’s 5-yard run.

After forcing the Generals into a punt on their second drive, Word capped a quick possession with his 75-yard touchdown pass to sophomore EJ Linder that made it a 12–0 game.

Word got the second-quarter scoring started when Word broke off a 99-yard touchdown run that pushed Chatham’s lead to 20.

Breedlove scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter and found the end zone in the fourth on a 4-yard scamper to make it a 34–0 game. Word capped the scoring with a 74-yard touchdown run that led to the final score.

Junior O’Bryan Myers added an interception for the Cavaliers, while freshman Tervon Glass added a fumble recovery.

Word ran for a game-high 225 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Breedlove ran for 170 yards and three scores.

Word completed 5-of-9 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. Linder was a favorite target, pulling down two catches for a game-high 130 yards.

Chatham returns to action Oct. 18 when it hosts Appomattox County at 7 p.m.

Altavista sets school single-game scoring record in win over Dan River

RINGGOLD, Va. — Altavista scored early and often on its way to a program single-game scoring record in a 74–7 win over Dan River in Dogwood District action Friday night.

Senior Ladainian Stone ran the ball 14 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns, while also scoring on a 65-yard kickoff return. Junior Christian Garvin, senior TJ Robinson, sophomore Cooper Brooks, junior Ja’corion Davis and freshman Kaleal Clark all had rushing touchdowns for Altavista (6–0, 3–0 Dogwood).

Dan River (1–5, 0–2 Dogwood) scored its lone touchdown on sophomore TyShawn Davis’ 70-yard kickoff return.

Senior DJ Gregory rushed for 45 yards on nine carries and hauled in 29 receiving yards.

Dan River takes the field again Oct. 18 when it takes on Nelson County on the road at 7 p.m.

Glenn rushes for four scores, Brandon runs for three, Matos with two picks in George Washington’s rout of Martinsville

DANVILLE, Va. — Senior Jaden Glenn rushed for four touchdowns, sophomore Alex Brandon ran for three and junior Antonio Matos recorded a pair of interceptions in George Washington’s 56–8 rout of Martinsville in Piedmont District action Friday night.

Glenn scored on runs of 4, 4, 80 and 4 yards, while Brandon punched the ball in on runs of 21, 55 and 16 yards to cap his breakout night.

Junior Lamarcier Davis hauled in a touchdown pass for the Eagles. Junior Cam Stephens was a perfect 8-for-8 on extra-point attempts for the Eagles.

GW (5–1, 2–0 Piedmont) got the scoring started early, finding the end zone on Glenn’s 4-yard run on its first possession of the game.

Glenn found the end zone again with just under five minutes left in the opening quarter on his 4-yard run that gave the Eagles a 14–0 lead.

Glenn completed his hat trick at the start of the second quarter when he ripped off an 80-yard run that pushed GW’s lead to 21–0 at the 11:47 mark.

The Eagles once again went to Glenn deep and he repaid their faith with a 4-yard run that extended GW’s lead to 28–0.

Brandon started his night when he scored from 21 yards out and Davis rounded out the first-half scoring when he hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from senior Nehemiah Cabell for a 42–0 lead going into the break.

Brandon started the second-half scoring when he punched the clock from 55 yards out with just over five minutes left in the third and capped his hat trick with a 16-yard run with 9:00 remaining in regulation.

Martinsville (3–4, 1–2 Piedmont) got on the board when freshman Camarion Plunkett hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Da’Veono Lowe with three minutes left in the game.

Glenn ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries, while Brandon rushed for 123 yards and three scores on eight carries.

Cabell had a solid night through the air, completing 14-of-17 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Tashon Nash led the Eagles with 44 yards on five catches while senior Pat Taylor hauled in two catches for 33 yards. Davis finished with 23 yards and a score on two catches.

Matos led the defensive efforts with two interceptions.

GW returns to action Oct. 18 when it takes on Bassett on the road at 7 p.m.

Magna Vista scores win over Gretna in non-district action

RIDGEWAY, Va. — Senior Simeon Moore threw for two touchdowns and recorded two interceptions, senior Ethan Dukes rushed for a pair of scores and Magna Vista knocked off Gretna 43–18 in non-district action Friday evening.

Moore threw scoring passes of 40 and 27 yards to senior Torian Younger and junior Tyler Martin, respectively. Dukes found the end zone on runs of 20 and 36 yards. Moore recorded picks near the end of the second and third quarters.

Moore finished with 122 passing yards on 12 completions. Younger was his favorite target, finishing with seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown, while Martin pulled down two catches for 36 yards and a score. Dukes rushed for a game-high 141 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Junior Rayshaun Logan completed 22 passes for a game-high 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior Jay Giggetts had a big evening, hauling in nine catches for 151 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Tysen Miller recorded six receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown. Junior Kahlil Waller ran for a team-high 62 yards and a score on four carries.
