Fluent in Everyone’s Pain… Forgotten in My Own

The person who understands everyone… is secretly falling apart.

You know what’s exhausting?

Being the one who always understands.

The one who says,

“Maybe they didn’t mean it like that.”

“Maybe they’re just going through something.”

“Maybe I should be more patient.”

So you keep giving people grace…

even when they barely give you effort.

You listen.

You comfort.

You notice the smallest shift in everyone’s mood.

You become the safe place.

But when it’s your turn to fall apart?

Suddenly, no one notices.

No one asks,

“Are you okay?”

No one sits with your silence long enough to hear what you’re not saying.

And maybe that’s the hardest part of being emotionally intelligent…

You understand everyone’s pain so deeply,

that you start excusing the ways they hurt you.

You become fluent in everyone else’s emotions…

while quietly grieving the fact that no one seems fluent in yours.

And the painful truth?

The people who feel the deepest…

often feel the loneliest.
