Top 10 Must-Have BakingTools For Beginners.

Baking is therapeutic. It doesn’t only speak talent and skill but also reveals our inner most beings. Baking is a blend of skill, creativity and emotions altogether. As a baker myself, I can testify that baking is probably the most fun, soothing and rewarding activities I get to engage in most of my time.

Inorder to make this experience memorable and worth it every single time, a baker needs specific equipment, just like a warrior needs his armor and sword to go to battle.

In this blog I’m gonna share 10 specific equipment I use myself and have found very helpul in terms of efficiency and time-management and contibute a lot to the final outcome of every baked product I make. All are available on amazon and you’ll find the links pinned as you read through.

So let’s get caking!

  1. ELECTRIC HAND MIXER.

Yes, I said it. An electric hand mixer is way more important that you think. Here, let me tell you why. Firstly, we all can testify that it’s fast, right? It’s not only fast, it’s efficient and reliable and definitely, not energy consuming. Imagine having to manually knead dough or mix cake batter for minutes and minutes, it’s tiring, right?

It also plays one of the most important roles in baking, you got it right, making cake frosting, it could be whipping cream or even buttercream. These frostings by nature, need a fast-paced kind of beating to get that think, creamy texture and it’s only possible by using the hand mixer, preferably for beginners.

Not only that, it’s light weight, very portable and easy to clean and also cost effective as compared to the stand mixer hence very suitable for beginners. It’s also applicable to almost every recipe like cakes, cupcakes, bread, doughnuts , you name it.

It’s probably one of the most underrated tools and most people think it’s only relevant to businesses, no, not at all, even a home baker can for certain enjoy the fruit of this tool!

This specific hand mixer comes with 4 pairs of hooks, suitable for mixing dough, cake batter and even beating eggs. Try it now and tell me how it goes!

  1. MIXING BOWLS.

Another important and helpful tool is the glass bowl. Firstly, it’s easy to maintain, it may be glass, yes, but if handled with care, could go a long way. When I compare it to silverware, it is most durable and longlasting cause it doesn’t rust or wear and tear.

It’s also much easier to use when kneading and mixing of batter when using a hand mixer cause it’s less violent on the machine or the bowl itself, meaning that it causes less friction while using a hand mixer hence durability of both the mixer and bowl.

So I 100% recommend using a glass bowl for baking, specifically when using a hand mixer.

  1. BAKING PANS AND TINS.

Ofcourse you can’t bake without tins. But ooh, silicone molds do exist, right? So I hear the question. Yes silicone molds are also an alternative, but they may not be as efficient as metal tins, stainless steel for example. Let me tell you why.

Stainless steel tins have proven to last for years as compared to silicone molds due to their sturdiness, ability to hold their shape, ability withstand very high temperatures and they definitely don’t tear! With proper care( no harsh scrubbing, drying properly after washing, avoid soaking), good quality metal tins can last decades, more than the silicone molds.

A baker serious about durability usually leans on good quality metal pans for the “forever” factor and keeps silicone molds for special shapes and convinience.

4.MEASURING CUPS AND SPOONS/ WEIGHING SCALE.

I once struggled with unevenly cooked and poorly textured products cause I lacked the knowledge of the importance of “properly” measuring my ingredients. But like many others, I had to learn the hard way, after several failed attempts.

Getting measuring cups and spoons as well as the weighing scale could go a long way for you. The key secret to delicious, well balanced and appropriately textured baked products is to correctly measure the ingredients according to the recipe. Not only that, you need a weighing scale to evenly measure the amount of cake batter that should go into your baking tins for evenly raised cakes.

  1. ICING SPATULA.

This is a must have if you’re a frosting baddie. Many bakers like me, are into frosting, so it’s only fair to possess one of these.

This tool makes frosting application managebale and easy and it’s basically impossible to frost without this, atleast for a beginner.

I’d recommend the angled spatula. It’s angled nature makes it more efficient more than the straight one, though also applicable.

  1. CAKE TURNTABLE.

I’m sure you’re probably asking why you need this. So I’ll tell you in a few words.

You’ve just baked a beautiful sponge cake for a friend’s birthday. Now it’s time to frost it. You place the cake on a flat plate and start spreading buttercream. To reach the other side, you have to stretch your arm awkwardly, twist the plate a bit, then move around the table. The frosting keeps coming out uneven, and when you try to smooth the sides, the spatula drags, leaving ridges. By the time you’re done, the cake looks messy and lopsided, even though you put in so much effort.

Now imagine the same situation but with a cake turntable. You place the cake on it, hold your spatula steady at one angle, and simply spin the turntable smoothly. The frosting spreads evenly all around without you having to move awkwardly. When you go to smooth the sides, the turntable keeps the cake gliding under your spatula, creating clean, professional edges. In less time and with less effort, your cake looks bakery-quality.

Now I hope that clears everything!

  1. WHISK.

A baker without a whisk is no baker, that’s an imposter!

Haha, just kidding.

We all know the importance of a whisk here, right? I mean how do eggs get that frothy look?

Anyways, to cut the long story short, a whisk ofcourse is most important when it comes to beating eggs, just that.

Some recipes require a fast-paced beating e.g. spongecakes and whipped cream while others don’t and that’s where the whisk comes in to save the day.

But seriously, ya’ll bakers need to get yourselves some whisk!

  1. SPATULA.

Think scrapping batter off the bowl walls and the folding in technique of mixing ingredients to incorporate air.

It’s designed in a way that it smoothly scraps batter off the bowl wall without making a mess leaving your bowl neat and clean at all times. It’s a must have, makes work a lot easy.

I higly recommend this silicone heat resistant spatula, found in amazon with about 4.6 reviews, completely worth it.

  1. PIPING BAG AND NOZZLES.

For decorations and finishing touches, this is the way-to-go.

From stars to rosettes, from shells to borders to swirls, you name it. This is your champion. Definitely a must-have especially if you’re aiming to grow and monetize your baking skills or if u just wanna enjoy a beautifully decorated cake.

Suitable for decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, meringues, macarons and even chocolate works.

I highly recommed a reusable silicone piping bag and nozzle set cause it comes with the uniform-sized nozzles that’ll fit into one piping bag without having to adjust every now and then or even buy mutliple. This one specifically comes with a variety of nozzle designs and an extra 3-piece scrappers and a brush for cleaning the nozzles. Added advantage!

  1. FINE SIFT

This is used to sift dry ingredients like, flour, icing sugar etc which helps to aerate the whole cake mixture giving it it’s desired texture and look.

Sifting the dry ingredients is as important as any other step in the baking process, unfortunately many of us neglect that step and end up with lumpy, dense and unevenly risen finished products. And us being the professional bakers that we are, definitely wouldn’t take this lightly.

So I urge you now to take this seriously because failure to do so can affect your baking in several ways, depending on the recipe.

Get one now on amazon . Fine sifter. This one specifically is a two in one of different sizes.

Baking is a beautiful and rewarding activity that I highly recommend everyone to engage in, whether or not it’s for business purposes. And as I said earlier, inorder to be fruitful , you’d need specific tools that i’ve already mentioned above. These are a must-have and non-negotiable.

Bakers………..let’s get caking!
