How to Save Money While Shopping Online!

Smart online shoppers almost never pay full price. Over the years, I’ve turned price hunting into somewhat of an art form, and I can tell you that getting the absolute lowest price on everything from electronics to groceries isn’t necessarily difficult — it just requires knowing exactly what to look for.

Here is my go-to list of proven tactics that I use to save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, on every purchase.

## 1. Always look for promo codes

The one golden rule for smart online shoppers is: if there is a promo code field on checkout, never pay full price! Prior to purchasing anything, I always check searchmydeals for the latest promo codes and coupons. This website is my go-to resource for finding active coupons and discount codes. It doesn’t just collect random coupons online, but also actively tracks the latest sales and promotions from thousands of retailers. Instead of spending 15 minutes trying to find working coupons on other coupon sites, I can find them all in one place in just a few second.

Pro Tip: I always look out for stackable coupons. Some retailers allow you to apply multiple coupons at once, such as a general website-wide discount and a separate one for free shipping.

## 2. Combine cashback portals with promo codes

If you want to get the absolute best price on anything sold online, relying on a single promo code will rarely get you there. To get the best price on a product, first look for:

  • Sale prices (usually available at holidays and during end of season sales)

  • A working promo code found at [SearchMyDeals]

By combining a 20% off seasonal sale, a 10% off promo code, and 5% cashback from a rewards portal or credit card, you can get up to 35% off the original price of most products sold online.

## 3. Abandoned cart discount hack

One of my favorite hacks for getting steep discounts is leaving products in my cart. When shopping on a website that I haven’t purchased from in a while, I’ll log in to my account (or create one if I haven’t already) and add products to my cart but avoid checking out. After 24 hours to 2 weeks (depending on the website), I’ll get an email from the retailer trying to convince me to return the items in my abandoned cart. The message typically contains a coupon code that provides either a general website-wide discount or a free shipping promotion.

This tactic doesn’t always work, but when it does, it can provide extremely generous savings with virtually no effort.

## 4. Always check historical prices first

When it comes to finding good sales online, it can be especially difficult to know whether a price is actually a good deal or not. Some retailers will falsely increase their prices right before a big sale to make it look like you’re getting a better deal when you aren’t really saving anything.

To avoid getting ripped off:

  • Use a price tracking extension to see what the historical prices of a product have been over the last 90 days

  • Compare prices across 2–3 different retailers

  • Check [SearchMyDeals] to see if another retailer is selling the product at a lower base price or has an ongoing sale

## 5. Know which day/time to shop

I’ve noticed that prices on many retailers’ websites tend to change throughout the year.

Here are some patterns I’ve found to shopping at certain times of the year or on specific days:

## A simple 4-step checklist before every purchase

Before making any online purchase in the future, make sure to complete this 4-step checklist:

  1. Did you clear your browser cache or use incognito mode to see if the price drops?

  2. Did you look on [SearchMyDeals] to see if there are any coupons, promo codes, or special sales?

  3. Are you using a credit card or portal that gives cashback for shopping?

  4. Did you double-check to make sure that the shipping price isn’t canceling out any discounts?

By simply spending an extra 2 minutes looking for promo codes and combining cashback portals, you can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars every year.
