We continued around Claife Heights, a strange mix of pine woods, bald deforested steps with rocky outcrops, ferns at chest height and the odd common orchid**. The tarns reminded me of Japanese gardens - milky water and the fells in the background reminiscent of the ‘borrowed scenery’ which Japanese ponds incorporate.
Back at Sawrey, we had a coffee in the Cuckoo Brow Inn, a giant building with 14 ensuite guest bedrooms and a converted stables with some cosy niches to drink in. On my phone I saw that Donald Trump had tweeted a video of himself body-slamming and pummelling a man with a CNN logo for a head.
