There’s a moment we all face standing on the edge of something we truly want, yet frozen by fear. A quiet whisper in our heads says, “Wait. Just a little longer.” We stall, convincing ourselves the water will feel warmer if we just give it more time.
But here’s the truth : The cold water doesn’t get warmer if you jump late.
Fear dresses itself as logic
Hesitation often feels logical. We tell ourselves we’re not ready yet, that we’ll start tomorrow, next week, next year once we have gathered enough courage, confidence, or skill.
What we don’t realize is : fear doesn’t shrink when we wait. It grows. The leap doesn’t become easier, it only starts to look taller.
My story of waiting too long
Five years ago, I wanted to start writing. Words stirred inside me thoughts, emotions, ideas I longed to share. But fear whispered louder than creativity. The fear of judgment, the fear of not being “good enough,” the fear of people talking.
So I didn’t start. And for a long time, I carried the regret of that choice.
I would often think, “If I had just started back then, where would I be now?” But time doesn’t owe us comfort. The water remained cold. I remained on the edge.
Until one day, I jumped.
The water was cold : But I was ready
When I finally began writing, something surprising happened. No one mocked me. No one picked apart my flaws. The world didn’t stop spinning. In fact, no one was watching as closely as I’d imagined.
I wrote. I kept writing. I started growing, not because the fear disappeared, but because I stopped giving it power.
Yes, the water was still cold. But I had wasted enough time standing at the edge, waiting for it to feel safe. It never would. And that was okay.
To anyone still standing on the edge
Let me say this clearly :
Jump. Don’t wait for courage to find you, it finds you in motion. Don’t wait for fear to leave, it walks with you until it learns it’s no longer in charge.
The longer you wait, the harder it becomes. Fear doesn’t fade with time, it solidifies.
Start now. Start scared. Start anyway. Whether you rise or struggle, you’ll learn. You’ll gain strength. You’ll grow.
And you’ll never regret the leap, only the wait.
In the end
The cold water never changes for anyone. But you do. Once you’re in, you realize : “ You were capable all along.”
🌊 Thank you for diving in 🌊
If you made it this far, thank you, not just for reading, but for holding space for this story. I hope somewhere between these lines, you found a spark, a reminder, a nudge, or even the courage to take your own leap.
Here’s to the brave ones, the quiet ones, the dreamers with shaking hands may you jump anyway.
If you have a story feel free in the comments, I’m listening.
