Letter to Mayor Lurie, Please Help Save Muni

Dear Mayor Lurie,

As a frequent transit rider and someone without a car, I urge you to do everything you can to stop the proposed Muni service cuts. I frequently use the 5 Fulton bus to get to work in the downtown financial district, so it’s highly inconvenient to me if it stops at Market St. If this change is implemented I will need to consider my options for how to get to work. Additionally, cutting service will push others to consider alternate choices out of convenience and lead to an even greater spiral of transit ridership.

I know you care deeply about downtown revitalization, and one of the best things you could do for downtown is to help shore up Muni. Transit is the lifeblood of our city, and if this life support system fails, so will downtown.

I also urge you to please reconsider your decision to allow Waymo vehicles onto Market St., as this will further disrupt Muni operations and make cyclists and pedestrians on Market less safe. Please do not give in to business groups who have a misguided view that adding private vehicles to Market St. will lead to more business. This will only lead to more traffic, less transit use, and an unsafe street corridor in an area where we should be supporting foot traffic.

I know saving Muni will take more than support from the office of the mayor, but I urge you to please do your part to keep transit service afloat. We are all counting on you.
