Aesthetics in programming / プログラミングにおける審美学
Programmers often seek after aesthetics in programming languages (including machine languages) at least from 1970s. By the aesthetics of programming languages I mean beautifulness and simplicity of the language specifications that automatically guarantee aesthetics of written programs.
Some fundamentalists love the instruction set of 68000 and Scheme, and dislike the instruction set of 80386 and C++. They love FreeBSD but not Linux. They love Mac and hate Windows. (And they are always minorities.)
There always an exception. Z80 and PowerPC are somehow accepted, aren’t they?
プログラマはしばしばプログラミング言語（機械語を含む）に美しさを求める．プログラムの美しさではなく，書かれたプログラムが美しくあることを保証するような，言語仕様の美しさである．少なくとも1970年代からその傾向はあるようだ．
美しさを追求する原理主義者は機械語であれば68000の命令セットやScheme言語を好み，一方80386の命令セットやC++言語を嫌う．原理主義者はFreeBSDを好み，Linuxを嫌う．Macを好み，Windowsを嫌う．（つまり美しさを追求しすぎると少数派になるらしい．）
ただ，よほどの原理主義者で無い限り例外というものはある．例えばZ80やPowerPCはプログラマによって十分美しいと認められるだろう．
