and all the opening flower buds turned inward evening stars dissolving into dust the darkness a perennial burial shroud for fate’s destructive violence and each tooth drenched in animal predation dripped the devil’s touch a red-furred wild-abomination on the hunt for prey and so when fate struck all hearts screamed silent forgiveness never further from the mind of one who blames themselves yet hides their pain through each day’s long endurance and when tears rush clouds accumulate upon each days’ inevitable resurrection the mind a conjurer of torment tongue a slave to prayer to beg the heavens rest you easy small comfort for this empty place this earth
