Before You Vote in OH-07: Why the District Needs Brian Poindexter for Congress

He is One of Us

Ohio’s 7th Congressional District has been waiting a long time for someone who actually feels like they are an OH-7 resident. Someone who grew up in the same economic reality as the people who live there… someone who knows what it costs when the system doesn’t work, because they’ve paid that cost themselves.

Yep.. That’s Brian Poindexter. Doing the hard work, getting dirt under his nails to make everyone’s lives easier

Yep.. That’s Brian Poindexter. Doing the hard work, getting dirt under his nails to make everyone’s lives easier

Ohio’s 7th deserves more than last-minute mudslinging, so let me explain to you why the Democrats of Cleveland State University are all-in on Brian Poindexter for US Congress.

OH-7 is a Working-Class District that Needs a Working-Class Voice

OH-7 stretches across a swath of Northeast Ohio… From Parma to Westlake to Medina to Orville to Wooster… All are communities that built this country with their hands and have been watching Washington ignore them for decades.

Max Miller is the unpopular incumbent here. He’s a Trump loyalist who voted against the PRO Act, against lowering prescription drug costs, and has coasted through two terms treating the seat like a reward for political loyalty rather than a responsibility to serve.

The person who beats Max Miller in November needs to be someone those voters can believe in… and Brian Poindexter is that guy. Brian’s life story is exactly that… a life story. Not a resume, not a checklist… just pure, unashamed, Buckeye Spirit. Many of the Ohio 7 voters might recognize this story because they lived it too.

Poindexter is a union ironworker with Local 17. He earned a Class A CDL. He worked in kitchens, factories, and construction sites. He coached apprentices coming up behind him. He’s raised two daughters while serving five terms on Brook Park City Council. Poindexter is one of us as a middle class American… and his credentials show us that. When he is on the campaign trail he talks about how tightly families are being squeezed… I know I feel that… and I know I am not alone.

Like many of us… Brian started working at 15. Kitchens, factories, the moving industry… he drove through all of the lower 48 states before joining Ironworkers Local 17 in 2007. He earned his associate degree while working through the apprenticeship. He became an instructor, training the next generation of ironworkers… instead of closing the door behind him, Brian holds the ladder steady so others can see success. He served five terms on Brook Park City Council, representing his constituents through thick and thin.

This is the exact type of community member, leader, and zealous advocate that OH-7 and NEOhio at large neeeds.

The District is Winnable but We Need the Right Candidate

Max Miller is not immortal… he’s growing weaker by the day. He’s a Trump loyalist who has spent his time in Congress voting against the PRO Act, against lowering drug prices, and against the basic economic interests of the people in his district. He won in 2022 and 2024 because Democrats didn’t put up someone who could close the credibility gap with working-class voters who’ve stopped trusting the party… Brian closes that gap.

When he talks about working families getting squeezed while corporations post record profits… he’s describing what he watched happen to people he knows. When he talks about the dignity of organized labor, he isn’t talking from an outside perspective or from a ‘my grandpa is a plumber and pipefitter’ perspective like some Democrats… he carries a union card. The UAW, the Ironworkers, the Machinists, the AFL-CIO, the Communications Workers, the Working Families Party, Bernie Sanders, Our Revolution… they didn’t back Brian because of who he knows. They backed him because of who he is, because when the worker’s are under attack from healthcare to educators to welders to lifeguards to postal workers to farm hands to bus drivers we trust a worker to advocate for us.

Brian is What the Moment Calls For

We are two years into a political environment where working-class voters are being actively courted by the right with economic language that Democrats wrote and then abandoned. It’s only now that Democrats are coming home to the big tent to represent the dignity found in the American Dream, a good paying job, a solid retirement plan, etc. The answer isn’t to run a more credentialed insider and hope the resume sticks... The answer is to run someone whose entire life makes the statement. Brian is a public servant, not a politician. He is a worker who felt the squeeze and saw countless politicians failing to act… so he did.

Brian Poindexter has spent his whole life building things… bridges, buildings, a family, a community… even the damn podium for his campaign announcement. It’s time to send him to Congress to build something BETTER for the rest of us.

Vote Brian Poindexter for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District on May 5th.

Forever In Solidarity,

CAS
