I taught our son about the importance of reading without the use of books
How can that be? You must be fooling me.

No. No. I would not try to fool you.
Here is one example.
On Fridays, after morning pre-school, I stopped at the closest fast-food joint and ordered our lunch.
I would use the drive-thru, and our son sat in the seat closest to the pickup window. He would be handed the receipt with our food.
I would read the items on the receipt, and he would look inside the bag and let me know it was there.
Once there was a missing French fry. He got the server's attention, told him, and asked for another.
While driving off, I said, “See, when you know how to read, nobody can forget to give you everything you paid for.”
And that is one way I used to teach the importance of reading.
