The Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana was announced by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15th August 2014 and the scheme was launched on 28th August 2014. Under this scheme, the poor people of the country in the bank, post office 7 Bank accounts will be opened for poor people in the country, with zero balance in post offices and nationalized banks. The facility will be offered with an overdraft facility of Rs 5,000 and a built-in accident insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh in RuPay. Debit Card and RuPay Kisan Card.
Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana:-
The Prime Minister of our country Shri Narendra Modi launched the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana on 15th August 2014. One of the biggest projects of the Modi government is the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, which is 6 years old today. Today, as it turns 6 years old, Prime Minister Modi tweeted congratulations to the people and laid out the key issues related to this project in front of all the citizens. The Prime Minister tweeted that the purpose of the scheme was to connect the people who were deprived of it to the banking system. This initiative has proven to be a game changer.
More than 55% women are benefiting from this scheme:-
PM Narendra Modi launched the Jan Dhan Yojana. It is an ambitious financial scheme through which access to banking / savings and deposit accounts, remittances, loans, insurance, pensions can be ensured. This account can be opened at any bank branch or Bank Mitra outlet. No minimum deposit required to open this account. The account holder can open this account with zero balance.
On 15th December 2021, 44.12 crore accounts have been opened under this scheme. More than 55% of the account holders are women. This information has been informed from the Ministry of Finance. As on November 17, 2021, 24.42 crore women opened Jan Dhan accounts under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. About 1.65 crore citizens of Gujarat are benefiting from this scheme, out of which 0.84 crore or 51% account holders are women.
Citizens 10 years of age or older can open an account:-
Accounts can be opened at Government Sector Banks, Private Banks or Post Offices under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. If you have another savings account, than you can convert it into a Jan Dhan account. Any citizen of India who is 10 years of age or above can open his / her Jan Dhan account. Through this project, more citizens of the country can be connected with the banking system. By opening this account, customers will also get insurance of Rs 1.30 lakh. Of which the nominee will receive ₹ 100000 in death. Also included is a general insurance of ₹ 30000 under this scheme. Under this general insurance, the account holder receives ₹ 30,000 in the event of an accident.

As you all know, the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana was started to open the accounts of all the citizens of the country. Beneficiaries are given the facility to open Zero Balance Account through this scheme. They are also given RuPay debit card. Many more benefits are provided to the beneficiaries under this scheme. For example, if the beneficiary has an accident, cover ₹ 100000 in this situation and 30000 financial assistance to the beneficiary’s family in case of death. Beneficiaries can avail life cover only if he opens his account for the first time under Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana between 15 August 2014 and 26 January 2015.

Some special features of Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana:-
The Jan Dhan Yojana was started by the Prime Minister of our country Shri Narendra Modi in 2015. Zero balance account under this schemeT was opened. So far, more than 1.20 crore accounts have been opened under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. Of which Rs 1,31,639 crore has been deposited. Through this project, the government has set a goal to connect every citizen of the country. During the Covid-19 lockdown, the government sent ₹ 500 per month to the women’s Jan Dhan account. More than 200 million women have benefited from this scheme. The account opened by the government under the Jan Dhan Yojana is used to facilitate any government project. Some special features of Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana are as follows-
- Beneficiary’s savings account is opened under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana.
- There is no need to maintain minimum balance in the account opened under this scheme.
- The bank also pays interest on accounts opened under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana.
- Under this scheme, the beneficiary is given a debit card.
- Accident insurance cover of ₹ 200,000 was also provided under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. However, you can get this facility only if you use a debit card.
- Life insurance cover ₹ 30000 is also provided under this plan.
- There is also an overdraft facility of ₹ 10000 in the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan account, but to avail this facility, it is mandatory to link the beneficiary’s account with Aadhaar.
- This account is used by the government to transfer benefits directly to any scheme.

How many accounts have been opened in Jan Dhan Yojana?

Money sent to Jan Dhan Yojana:-
Due to the lockdown in the country, Rs.500 is being transferred to the Jan Dhan account of women from poor families. Under this scheme, till April 1, 2020, Rs 1.20 lakh crore was deposited in the accounts of poor women of the country. But now, according to official data, the amount deposited in accounts opened under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana has risen to Rs 1.28 lakh crore in the week ended April 8, 2020. On April 8, Rs 1,27,748.43 crore was deposited in the accounts of 38.12 crore women. Under the Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Scheme launched by the Central Government, Rs.9,930 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 9.86 crore wealthy account holders.
Under the PM Poor Welfare Package, Rs.500 installments for the month of May are being sent to female account holders of PMJDY in banks. Money is completely safe, to avoid crowds in the bank, take money from the branch, CSP, bank.

The PMJDY project has 6 pillars which are as follows-
1. Accessible to banking facilities:-

Under the Prime Minister’s Life Insurance Scheme (PMJBY), the beneficiaries will get a life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakhs and they will have to pay a premium of only Rs.
6. Prime Minister’s Protection Insurance Scheme (PMSBY):-
This insurance scheme will give you an accident cover of Rs. 2 lakhs and you will have to pay a premium of only Rs.
7. RuPay Debit Card:-
Once you open an account you will get RuPay Card (ATM Card) which includes accident insurance of only Rs 2 lakh.
Benefits of Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana 2022:-
- Any citizen of the country can open an account in banks under this scheme and even a child up to 10 years can open an account under this scheme.
- Accident insurance up to Rs 1 lakh will also be covered in case of opening an account under this Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana 2022.
- Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, life insurance of Rs.
- Under PMJDY, interested beneficiaries can take a loan of up to Rs. 10,000 / — without any paperwork from the account holders to open a Jan Dhan account in any bank.
- Beneficiaries of government schemes will directly benefit from these accounts.
- An overdraft facility of Rs.5000 / — will be provided in one account of each family, especially in the account of women.
- The Prime Minister’s Public Wealth Scheme (PMJDY) is a national mission for financial inclusion to ensure affordable access to financial services such as banking, savings / deposit accounts, remittances, credit, insurance, pensions.
- The account can be opened at any Bank branch.
- Accounts opened under PMJDY are being opened with zero balance.
- However, if the account holder wants to get the check book, he have to maintain the minimum balance criteria.
- So far 38.22 crore beneficiaries have deposited money in the banks and so far 117,015.50 crore has been deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Eligibility to get life insurance cover:-
- The applicant opened a bank account for the first time.
- 15 If this account is opened between 2014 to 26 January 2015 under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana.
- The benefit of this scheme can be availed only by the applicant if he is the head of the household or the earning member of the family and his age is between 18 to 59 years.
- Central or state government employees will not be able to avail the benefits of this scheme.
- Retired central or state government employees will also not be able to avail the benefits of this scheme.
- Taxpayers will also not be able to avail the benefits of this scheme.
