Beyond Films: How NewFrames Is Turning Cinema Into Action — And What Comes Next

In a world saturated with content, films rarely move beyond the screen. They inform, they inspire — but too often, they stop there. NewFrames was created to challenge that limitation.

From Screenings to Systems Change

Over the past year, NewFrames has been actively building this model through its monthly event series, Films & Politics.

Each edition brings together a unique mix of voices — Members of the European Parliament, journalists, policymakers, civil society leaders, and citizens — to engage with films that tackle urgent social, political, and environmental issues.

But these are not passive screenings.

They are structured moments of dialogue, designed to bridge sectors that rarely share the same space — transforming cultural experiences into opportunities for debate, alignment, and action.

With 4,000+ participants, 60+ speakers, and 14 screenings and debates, Films & Politics has quickly become a growing platform for meaningful exchange in Brussels.

As one participant put it: “We need more debate like this.”

Conversations That Matter

From biodiversity finance to artificial intelligence governance, the discussions sparked by Films & Politics reflect the complexity of today’s challenges.

One event explored how public, private, and philanthropic actors can collaborate to close the biodiversity finance gap — bringing together voices from government, finance, and NGOs, followed by a screening illustrating the transformative potential of ecosystem restoration.

Another tackled Europe’s role in shaping ethical and competitive AI governance, convening experts in digital rights, innovation, and policy to examine how the continent can remain globally competitive while protecting fundamental rights.

In a different session, the focus shifted to transparency and accountability in European funding — asking a critical question: who is watching the money? — and opening a conversation on how to safeguard public trust in times of increasing rule-of-law challenges.

These discussions do not end when the lights come back on.

Through photography, short-form video content, and upcoming podcast releases, NewFrames extends each conversation beyond the room — ensuring ideas continue to circulate, evolve, and reach new audiences.

From Momentum to Movement: Introducing the NewFrames International Film Festival of Advocacy

Building on this momentum, NewFrames is now expanding its model through the pre-launch of the NewFrames International Film Festival of Advocacy in Brussels, centered on a timely theme: artificial intelligence, human creativity, and democratic responsibility.

Across several iconic venues, the festival will bring together filmmakers, policymakers, civil society, and the public through:

• Film screenings addressing urgent social and environmental challenges
• Public debates connecting institutions, industry leaders, and citizens
• Workshops
• Networking moments designed to foster long-term collaboration

Each event will once again serve as a starting point — not an endpoint. This event which be held from 22nd to 25th of June 2026, will serve as pre-launch for our first edition in 2027.

Beyond Films — Toward Action

NewFrames is not simply creating cultural events.

It is building a model — one where films become platforms, audiences become communities, and conversations become catalysts for change.
