How to use your words

Do you know that when it comes to words, there is no such thing as "I just dey catch cruise, I no mean am" (meaning "I am only kidding, I do not mean it") or "it's the facts I'm stating, I'm only saying it how I see the situation"?

Brethren, that’s not true. You mean to tell me that because you had certain experiences this morning, then you already declared the day as bad/unproductive? Or do you mean to tell me that all in the name of trying to make a joke, then you can be careless with words? NO!!

As a believer, you need to understand the value of words and draw your understanding from God’s Word. Allow God to be your model. If Scripture can testify that God honours His Word more than His name, don’t you think you need to carefully consider the way you use your words?

Are we not made in God's image? Are we not called to be His representatives? How then should we speak what He has not spoken?

Proverbs 18:21 NKJV

• [21] Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.*

In this verse, we see two categories of power: the power of death and life, and it is through the tongue that we engage with power. Simply put, our words give direction to power.

What type of power are you producing?

Brethren, if you think of your words as powerful, then you will stop being careless with them.

Carefully observe Scriptures from the beginning and see how God used His Word. Allow the whole body of truth to shape your view.

Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit.

I pray that today and beyond, your words carry so much grace, they are seasoned with salt, and you know when to speak and how to speak.
