The rock, large and flat, took two burly men with pry bars to heave it upward enough to be able to move it. The small, local fire dept. had been called to set a tripod hoist with rope and a pulley system over the rock to hoist it out of the way. The rescue riggers worked hurriedly to wrap the rock with webbing as the men with pry bars made openings. Three other men stood by, rope in hand to lift it out of the way.
The one guard who had been assigned to watch the vent-hole and keep track of all movement of people from the chamber below had now been supplied with a 360-degree camera which had been mounted just inside the hole.
He had a screen in his hand and kept track of the movement of people below. When children were ushered in, before the man who sat on the throne, work was done quickly and quietly above ground. He would signal with hand gestures when to start and stop work so as to make as little noise as possible.
He had observed, along with a host of others who watched the camera’s feed, cast onto a larger monitor in the back of one of the SUVs; that the chamber was used as a viewing chamber where the children were brought before the one who sat on the stone throne. Five children had been brought before the throne by three different men.
They didn’t appear to be heavily armed, and all entered and exited through the doorway that Dwayne had originally observed. No other doorways could be found along the walls of the chamber by the camera, nor by the watchful eyes of those, focused on the screen.
All the men, children, and even the one who sat on the stone ‘throne’ had exited the room — the man on the throne had exited taking with him a child, whom he led by the hand.
Hurriedly, operations to hoist the rock were set in place. I felt like I was in a dream, standing in the middle of everything going on. Guards to my left were arming and gearing up, police and sheriff vehicles in the valley below with lights flashing, coming up the windy dirt road made for an eerie view of the valley, cast with rays of moonlight.
The seemingly peaceful mingling of the well-dressed crowd socializing to my right; and the trafficking ring below, messed with my mind. The imbalance of society glaring in my face; raw and unflinching, wracked my perspective of life like never before and skewed momentarily, the perfection I had as of yet attained in my own life.
The scene before me set me back on my heels. My mind was reeling from the intensity of the situation, and like a blind sighted football player, the scene seemed to play out in slow motion before me as I scanned the crowd pressing against the caution tape line, then back to the armed rescue scene unfolding before me.
Mr. Dao, in his announcement, went on to explain that everyone needed to stay put for a time while the security guards worked to open up an entrance to a stairway leading below the ruins that we all stood upon.
“We have reason to believe — as it was discovered only this evening by one of our attendees — that a child trafficking ring happens to run operations in chambers below our very feet.
This area has been known for many years as a place where hikers and children have ‘lost their way’ and never been seen or found ever again. The last account occurring some twenty years ago or more.
It is our wish to be able to put a stop to whatever operation may be occurring. We have counted six different children that have been shuffled through a chamber below the parking area. All of them appear, at first glance, to be starved and mistreated and in grave danger.
Our security team has taken it upon themselves to not only protect you here at this dinner event; but also these children as an extension of their assignment.
They have sworn to protect the people within this vicinity from harm from others or themselves and are ready and willing to rescue these children trapped below us.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we will not be shuttling anyone down the mountain to their assigned lodging until the operation is complete.
As we speak, local authorities, officers, life safety personnel, and other public servants are en route to our location to secure the safety of the children, and provide backup security for you all, as we do not know the number of men in the chambers below.” Mr. Dao paused, and numerous questions shot out at him from the crowd.
“How long will the operation take?”
“We are unsure but will continue to update you as we receive information.”
“If we are going to rescue kids who look starved, don’t you think they’re likely to be hungry and thirsty? Perhaps the caterers should hold off packing up the food?” Someone interjected from the crowd.
“Excellent idea. Can I task you with handling that?” Mr. Dao questioned the woman, then answered a few more questions before taking leave of the stage, then heading towards the growing group of guards and rescue personnel gathered at the rear of a couple of the SUVs in the parking area.
“I want to go down there with them! I discovered it. I want to be a part of the rescue, but don’t want to be a liability.” Dwayne looked into Natalia’s eyes.
“Does that sound selfish or childish? I want to see what it is like down there, yes… it sounds adventurous and heroic and all, but I…I… I want to help that little girl I found — saw — I want to talk to her. I want to lead her out by the hand to safety! I just…I have this horrible feeling, like something terrible is going to happen to her; I can’t quell the feeling in my stomach; I have to help. It’s so wrong — so disgusting what these people are doing — to children!”
Natalia looked at Dwayne and felt his anguish. “Go talk to the guards or see what Mr. Dao says, he’s off the stage now.” She put her hand on his chest and stared up into his face. She knew she couldn’t take this moment from him.
“Ok, I will.” He said with resolve.
That innate desire in every man to protect and provide for those weaker than him in any way, shape, or form; the core essence of the male species; his animal instincts exuded from him. The fight or flight instinctual inclination was firmly set to fight and protect, and Natalia admired this side of him, which she had not yet before seen, with quiet contemplation.
Had she said anything to the contrary she might as well have told him not to protect her or their child growing in her womb. She leaned upward and kissed his scruffy, bearded cheek close to the edge of his lips.
“Be safe, darling.”
“Of course I will.”
He grabbed her hand on his chest, kissed her quickly, and walked over to the gathering group of guards, police, sheriff, and special forces units huddled up in groups.
He walked up to the lead guard of the event, who Mr. Dao had initially spoken to. Dwayne grabbed him by the arm mid-conversation with another guard as they looked at the screen and mapped out their rescue operation.
“I want to be a part of the rescue. Please.” He looked down at the ground and then back up at the guard. His name was Nick. Everyone called him Big Nick, and for good reason.
He was a burly, broad-shouldered, broad-chested man who stood a good head taller than Dwayne. Big Nick was six foot eight, three hundred sixty-five pounds of muscle, ten percent of which was his sharp mind, and his gentle heart.
He had retired from the military after 35 years and had served another 10 in the private sector. He had two years until he planned to retire and often could be overheard laughing and talking to the younger guards in passing about his children and grandchildren.
Dwayne had spoken to him a few times and knew his demeanor. He exuded masculinity. Big Nick looked down at Dwayne with an understanding look, grabbed Dwayne’s arm as a father would a son, and pulled him over to the back of another SUV.
“It’s going to be a fire fight for sure. We need to be quick on our feet, get in, overwhelm, and get out with the kids. I can’t lose you! We need you to tell this story to the world and use your lawyer skills to track down the leaders of these scum bags.”
The two men’s eyes locked, and Nick could see that Dwayne’s passion matched his own and couldn’t be quelled.
There was a pause for a few seconds as Nick stood thinking. He cocked his head to the side, listening to something that came in over the radio. He moved his pursed lips as if he was repositioning chew between his teeth.
“You had your mandatory civilians draft-prep, two-year reserve, monthly training? Or that come in after you graduated high school?”
“No sir, that came in about five years prior. Completed.”
“Well, then you’re younger than I thought you were. No one can know you’re just a draft-prepped civilian.” He released the grip on Dwayne’s arm, turned, and grabbed him by the other arm and pulled him over to another SUV, like a father would pull a child aside for a quick conversation, reprimand or otherwise.
He reached quickly for a bulletproof vest, mechanically checking the straps.
“Jacket off.” He said. Dwayne pulled his overcoat off and tossed it over the back seat. Nick dropped the vest over Dwayne’s head.
“I’m going to strap you, but do not fire. Understood?”
“Understood.”
“Remember your training. Behind me when we enter.”
“Yes, sir.”
Nick reached for an AR, inserted a mag, racked the slide, and set the safety.
“I’m going to set you as a lookout in the big chamber below. Peel off and post up when we hit the floor. When the fire-fight goes down; and it will, these C.S.T.O. fuckers never go down without a fight; hold in the chamber until you see men coming out with kids. Then exit with them. Do not follow line medics, no matter how much screaming you hear from any kids or soldiers. Wait until children come out — into the chamber, then lead them out. Understood?”
“Understood — Copy sir. — C.S.T.O.’s?”
“Private Sector acronym: Child Sex Traffickers and Offenders. I worked as an undercover operative for five years, mostly overseas missions, directly after my discharge from the military. Didn’t think I’d have a chance to show the young bucks my specialty, working a night shift at a retreat center up in the mountains — one last showdown before retirement, I suppose.”
Nick handed Dwayne two velcro-holstered, extra magazines.
“Put those on your chest for looks only, you won’t be needing them.” As he spoke, he tightened the straps on my vest, then reached for a helmet; he flicked the light on and off, and handed it to me. I put it on my head as he reached for the rifle. Before he dropped the strap over my shoulder, he flicked the safety again, showing me.
“Safety on. Safety off.” he angled the gun sideways, flicked the switch twice, and said, “If things go sideways, point and shoot.”
“I know how to shoot,” I said humbly.
“Not in this setting, you don’t! My six until we hit the floor. Then pair off and stick to that stone chair like you’re waiting for the bastard to show up and take a seat. He’s got one hell of a show coming tonight, thanks to you.”
He punched me in the shoulder like soldiers do, a form of camaraderie among team members, and walked with a hustle over to the two men he had put in charge of the first two teams ready for entry.
As I watched him walk away, my mind mused upon the words tatted on his muscled forearm; his soldiers’ creed. I read it quickly as he checked gear, and strapped me up. It read:
Lead like a King.
Move like a Spy.
Think like a Genius.
Work like a Machine.
Fight like a Champion.
Train like a Greek God.
Learn like an Apprentice.
Speak like a Philosopher.
Excel in all you do.
The hesitant crowd of onlookers gathered as closely as they could to the caution tape strung across the edge of the lot.
It had been almost two hours since Dwayne had discovered the air vent that led to the chamber below.
Lights on, guns at ready position, the guard monitoring the camera watched the room below. A total of twelve children and eight men, not including the one on the throne, had filed in and out of the room — it was unknown how many more there were, if any. Each child was in the room for five to fifteen minutes.
Nick wanted to make sure the whole operation went off without a hitch and had constructed a plan of action where they would wait to enter, until every person in the chamber below left the throne room. Then there should be a 30 second delay before the final rock was removed for entry.
It was unknown how much rock debris would fall into the chamber, alerting the men below of the soldiers entering from above.
The delay would give those clearing and hoisting the rocks, and the entrants, the extra necessary time to enter before the C.S.T.O’s could hear them, having hopefully moved much further into the other chambers below; slowing their reentrance into the chamber to make a stand, with weapons against the extraction team as they moved down the stairs into the chamber.
The rock extraction team had cleared over two feet away from the edges of the capstone. A nine-foot tripod, pre-rigged with four carabiners and leads connected to four large webbing loops to go around the stone were poised for action, and nine men stood by, poised to raise the stone from its ancient bed.
The rock was a rectangle measuring three-foot by five-foot and roughly two inches thick. To make the lift as quick as possible, two men each stood with long pry bars on either end of the stone. Pre-made loops were looped over the pry bars, ready to be pulled under and over the rock and spaced evenly for lifting by two men each, who squatted on the long side of the stone opposite each other.
Three men stood ready to man the 4:1 pre-rigged pulley and haul line, to lift the rock up. One man, poised on the lock mechanism rope on the 4:1 pulley, the other two ready at the haul line.
What seemed like hours crept by.
Finally, the man sitting on the ‘throne’ below led a young girl, about 11 years old, by the hand out of the chamber and down the hallway.
Nick was giving the group of entrants a pep talk while they stood waiting for the entry-moment of surprise.
“Unfortunately, I’ve been down in places like this before; many times. More times than I’d like to remember. I don’t say ‘unfortunately’ because I don’t want to be here; rather cause this is something in our world that ought not to be tolerated, overlooked, or done in secret; ever, especially to kids, but it is. So here I am again, and here you all are by my side, ready to make an entry into a world that needs to be destroyed for the protection of our nation’s youth.
There’s kids down there, getting molested, raped, beaten, starved, and forced against their will to do things reserved for a man and woman — and some things not even for them. I’ve come upon little girls tied up and hung in slings by a single arm and leg, raped to death by three monsters — a cock in each hole — strung up, fucked, and choked to death by whoremongering chomos, filming it for others to watch.
Imagine if that was your son or daughter. Feel and channel that rage within you. We want as many of them kids alive as possible. Anyone of em’ you approach, could be your own flesh and blood.
And, if you can’t take a shot without 100% certainty that it’s not going to hit a child — then don’t do it; whatever negotiations you have to do, to ensure their safety, if that means you have to take a hit, then take it for them, like you would, for your own kid.
And, if you’re any kind of religious person, somebody’s god somewhere once said; bring the little children to me for their innocence and freedom from the knowledge of good and evil is what heaven is made from.
As men and women standing here, we may know the horrors of war and famine in this world; because we’re adults, but them’ kids; they do too now, and they ought to never have been forced and exposed at such a young age.
So, lets get in there; a mission given to us straight from god himself; and bring them kids out to the arms of safety — of every one of us; and them’ people waiting to embrace them over there; because them’ kids, shoulda’ never been taken in the first place on our watch, by these faggot, child molesting, piece a shit, motherfuckers”.
The guard monitoring the chamber raised his hand, and hush fell over the entire group.
Traffic over the radio cracked the nearly silent cold mountain air.
“Room is clear. Starting 30-second countdown.”
“Team 1 Entry, Recon. Ready?”
“Team 1 Ready”
“Team 2 Search n’ Line Medics. Ready?”
“Team 2 Ready.”
“Team 3 Backup Recon, Extraction. Ready?”
“Team 3 Ready.”
“Team 4 Backup 2, Canine Recon, Line Medics. Ready?”
“Team 4 Ready.”
“Rescue Team Rock Extraction. Ready?”
“Rescue Team Ready.”
“Team 1 Stand by, for Go from Rescue Team.”
“Team 1 Standing by”
“Rescue Team, you are a go in 4, 3, 2, 1.”
