Welcome to the MarieAnne and Friends newsletter. Spring has sprung, maybe. Sunny today and 58.. Rainy yesterday and 44. Only got into shorts once in April. It was either too cold or wet. I shouldn’t complain, we really need the water.

Becoming a radio drama producer is proving to be a monumental task. Suno and Internet Archive, together with Balabolka have given me a nice introduction. Taking the next step to the dialog with sound effects (SFX) is proving a bridge too far. BBC Sounds and Free Sounds are great resources. I’ve been able to do most of the sounds for the first scene. No luck with Eleven Labs or Suno making AI read the script. It’s not that big a leap from what both can do, but it is a leap they haven’t taken. Crossing fingers.

No submittals for April. Two rejections. Trying produce Mr. Lucky is taking up all my time. I’ve put it on the back burner for now. I am starting work on the next episode of Mr. Lucky. Writing the script is not a big problem beyond plot and characters. I think I’ve got the idea. Now, the plot. Got some nice reviews for archived stories. Hope you like them.

If you’re thinking about writing, don’t let publishing be a major concern. Self-publishing is becoming accepted. It couldn’t be easier. It may be a backdoor to traditional publishing, if you want to go that way. Build a following and the publishers may let you in the front door. Publishing is easy, marketing is not. I’m trying to crack that nut. It may be the basis for a business model for Intercede.

In time, as we get to know each other better and you tell me what you would like to know about MarieAnne, this section will expand. For now, I will add short stories or other tidbits which I think you may enjoy. You might find it convenient to use Chat at MarieAnne’s website.

Ruby and Rollo

The prompt: Show don’t tell. Ruby is sitting on a park bench. A man sits next to Ruby on the bench. A small head sticks out of the man’s coat pocket. The head might or might not have winked at her. Nice review: This piece carries a gentle, reflective tone that builds as the conversation deepens. What starts as a simple interaction gradually opens into something more meaningful. The emotional shift feels natural, not forced, and that gives the story a steady sense of movement. I appreciated the restraint in this. It doesn’t push too hard, and because of that, the connection between the characters feels more believable. There’s a calm assurance in your writing that makes it easy to trust where you’re taking the reader.

From the archives. Nice review: Great dialogue! I could easily see two children having this back and forth. It actually sounds like one, or ten, conversations among my own kids when they were a similar age. I found it extremely amusing to read. The rapid-fire questions and answers were spot on. Your title and description did exactly what they were supposed to do — beckoned me to read. Good choice with your genre selections, too.

Nice review: This is nothing if not consistent. That means you know your target and hit it point blank. Romantic, sure, also yearning; almost begging. But I don’t think that’s what it is — it’s reciprocation, right? A kind read, gentle and rigorous. Much obliged.
