Ibis Styles Bandung Grand Central: A Healthy Hotel Option

…yes, because you can take yourself to run in a proper running track nearby.

In 2025, I visited Bandung three times and stayed at four different hotels. Yes, four. I’ve previously discussed my stay at one of these hotels. Now, I’ll share my experience at the Ibis Styles Bandung Grand Central in June 2025, staying for four days and three nights. It turned out to be one of the most comfortable hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

The location is very strategic, being very close to Gasibu Field and in the same building as the Pullman Hotel. I chose to stay at the Ibis Styles on a friend’s recommendation, so I asked around a lot before arriving, as even getting to the lobby was quite tricky–after studying my friend’s experience. I even watched some short videos, tried to find a video that records the journey to reach the lobby.

Starting from Bandung Station, I took an online car and got off at the Pullman Hotel lobby. Enter through the main entrance of the Pullman Hotel, but immediately turn left and you’ll immediately see the elevator. Take the elevator and head to the 3rd floor. Once there, you’ll find the Pullman Hotel Ballroom area, where there’s an escalator. Go upstairs with the escalator, and voila! You’ve arrived at the Ibis Styles Grand Central Bandung.

My friend told me that if you rent a motorbike, just enter through the Pullman Hotel entrance, park in the basement, and take the elevator up to the 3rd floor.

The lobby is spacious and quite aesthetically pleasing. There are plenty of chairs for waiting your turn to check in or check out, so there’s no need to worry. As it was, there were 2–3 other guests checking in when I arrived, so I, my large backpack and other belongings, could still sit comfortably. Since it was quite busy, I was approached by a front desk staff member to check in at the high table to the left of the main front desk. The staff was friendly and the process was quite quick.

After receiving my keycard, I went straight to my room by elevator, walking to the right of the main front desk. It’s out of sight, so it looks like it’s behind the front desk, but more to the right side.

As soon as I opened the bedroom door, I was delighted to find the room super spacious. The bathroom had unique sliding doors on both sides; one side opened for entry and exit, and the other side opened towards the bed. Don’t worry, you can close them, of course. The toilet seat is separate from the shower stall, attached side by side. I love it because it allows the toilet area to dry completely. The sink is super spacious and bright, making it great for makeup and getting ready. Uniquely, because the sink is long and wide, and has a sliding wall, one of the outer corners facing the bed can be used as a table to place an electric kettle, water jug, mugs, and complimentary drinks (coffee and tea in sachets). Below it is a refrigerator with a transparent door. Perfect. You can refill your water from the dispensers located in several places in the hallway. Lucky for me, one of them is right next to my bedroom door.

The highlight is the super-large window, which takes up almost an entire side of the room, facing the exact center of Gasibu Field. Perfect view. There’s a long sofa near the window, where I often lounged and watched people doing sports at the field, while I was making myself comfortable on the sofa. Near the long sofa, there’s also a table and bean bag, complete with their signature red monkey plushie. There’s a TV, of course, but like most big chain hotels, it’s not connected to the internet, so you can only watch the subscription TV channels provided.

One inconvenience for me, a snack-loving person, is that if you want to order food online, you have to go down a long way (up the escalator and elevator), through the Pullman Hotel lobby, and then walk out to the main gate. Since I have to go through the Pullman Hotel lobby, I feel like I should at least dress appropriately. Most of the guests staying at the Pullman Hotel are men in long-sleeved batik shirts or women in full makeup. Actually, wearing crumpled shorts and shirts crossing the Pullman’s lobby should be fine as long as you’re confident, which I’m not. Hahahaha.

However, since it’s so close to Gasibu Field (you only need to cross the road twice on a fairly narrow street), I’d say wearing workout clothes through the lobby is still okay.

If you want to take an online vehicle, for a car, you can choose the pick up point at the Pullman Hotel lobby, but if you prefer taking the motorcycle, the pick up point is at the gate. So, you’ll have to walk a bit, but no worries as it’d be just a short walking distance.

Not only is it close to Gasibu Field, which is never empty except in the middle of the night, but this hotel is also across from Gedung Sate. Its location is truly that strategic. In October 2025, while I was staying at another hotel and taking my morning walk from my hotel to Gasibu Field, I saw the towering Ibis Styles Bandung Grand Central Hotel and thought, “Wow, I stayed here for a long time at the beginning of last year. It was so convenient, so close to Gasibu Field, but I didn’t even exercise there at all. Now, I have to walk 2.5 kilometers in an hour to walk around the field with lots of other people; many running and some walking like me.” Seeing people exercising every day from the window should have motivated me to get moving too, but unfortunately, I didn’t. Next time, if I stay here again, I’ll make sure to exercise every day!

It was a good experience for me, although there was one day when I didn’t want to leave the room, so I turned on the “Do Not Disturb” light, and the cleaning team left a note outside my door telling me to contact them if I wanted my room cleaned later.
