Zurvan and the all or nothing

I hope you are caught up with the story of Zurvan on my podcast but I can’t urge you to follow. Besides you’ll get the gist reading. So, for the time being, that’ll do.

I see that Zurvanism is mixed with Zoroastrianism all around the web, by mistake of course. But they’re not the same guys.

Chronologically, the mythology mentioned in Zoroastrianism was made first which under, Zurvan was just a god, a great one of course but another god under Mazda and he was a god of time.

There lies a connection between the word of time in Persian, ‘zamaan’ and Zurvan which I’ll explain later. And not to forget Zaal, a super important character in Shahnameh who’s an Albino and apparently does not die!

Alright, not to lose the thread as they say in Iran, there came a time, in Sassanid period according to some sources, that a new approach was formed and Zurvan changed from a god to an androgyne deity who gave birth to both Mazda and Ahriman. The Persian equivalences of good and evil. (Yeah, I know how it sounds but let’s give them some respect people. Those myth makers were diving into stormy waters!) Just a heads-up though, Mazda and Ahriman are nothing similar to Greek gods in acting like humans. They’re more like spirits who prefer to stay away and watch.

Anyway, this black and white attitude is what I think has formed the Persian mind and after a couple of millennia, the all or nothing phrase is still strong today.
