Stand By Your Pan: 100 Easy and Affordable Comfort Food Recipes So Good They’ll Hurt People’s Feelin’s (A Cookbook to Help You Enjoy Delicious Nostalgia with Some Modern Sass) by Hannah Dasher (Author) (March, 2026) Harper Celebrate
As a cookbook reviewer, I recently received a copy of a new book by an artist I wasn’t previously familiar with. I was instantly intrigued by the aesthetic, which felt like one part Hee Haw, one part Smokey and the Bandit, and one part Dukes of Hazzard. While I initially thought this might be more of an entertainment piece, I was pleased to find that the recipes are genuine and stay true to the online episodes Hannah Dasher creates for her followers. If you’ve spent any time on TikTok or YouTube, you likely know her as a “guitar goddess” who can shred as well as she can sauté, but Stand By Your Pan proves she is more than a viral sensation. She offers a practical lifeline for those who want to eat like it’s 1972 without spending all day — or a whole paycheck — in the kitchen.
While I appreciated the authenticity of the standard classics I grew up eating, I was also impressed by how Dasher incorporates modern convenience into these recipes. The book covers everything from retro cold salads and hearty mains to soul food sides that can be whipped up quickly. It is a practical guide featuring unique twists like Collard Green Dip and Potato Chip Pork Chops alongside reliable favorites like Mama’s Tomato Pie, Cathead Biscuits, and 1977 Banana Puddin’. After watching her videos and interviews, I was glad to see her signature retro country sass translate so well to the page; the book feels like a conversation with a friend who happens to know her way around a kitchen.
Ultimately, all the fun and personality aside, this is a solid, down-home cookbook that provides excellent advice for modern cooks looking to eat well on a budget. Dasher offers recipes that are unapologetically bold and soulful, making this a great fit for any busy person who still values a real meal. It’s clear that while she focuses on entertainment on stage, she takes the quality of her food seriously at the stove. Comes out March 10.
