Just a thought- Community work over system inefficiency.

Recently, there have been instances where community together were able to pull off things system failed to. Including recent Punjab flooding where local people from flood prone area came together raising levees to avoid flood water rivers from overflowing, helping other members of community, protecting their cattle & food. All this when centre, NDRF were still preparing.

As a fact it could be established that community & working together in a community rather than relying on the system/executive to do the job would definitely create a much more strengthened, strong-bonded, clean, desired community & environment.

But, a question always pops when this is being inculcated, “if we have to do this work, what is the system & executive for?” Truly, it is the work of the system & executive to do this on behalf of people who choose them as their reps, provided them with taxes to help them function.

However we have forgotten that it is also our responsibility to hold them accountable for their working. Thus more interaction, sessions should happen with local bodies representative. So, both would be benefitted, people gets themselves heard, their problem being addressed & leaders rather local representatives being able to understand situation of society.

How much / what is the extent & nature

for minimal works rather work in community extent like cleaning or keeping society & surrounding clean, community owned parks, community halls, & other things, which sometimes includes river, pond / water bodies cleaning in rural areas with voluntary participation & etc. could be done.

However some work are difficult for community to achieve as they might involve high financial demand, regulatory hurdles, legal lacking etc. or could be out of hands of community to work upon (taking law in hands etc.). For these kind of work local reps should be called upon to look for a solution.

For ex. -> cleaning of sewers, building infra, maintaining law & order, are few works only executive is more suitable with. Thus they should be held accountable for such work to be done.

Why community work over conventional ways

Indian executive or Indian working system is inefficient, corrupt, unwilling, power-hungry & rather than thinking of welfare of community proactively they tend to stay still or extort money wherever possible. Thus it makes work completion distant.

However community once united would achieve the following in easy & efficient manner, also it would invoke its members of community / society to choose their representative responsibly making thus unlocking their path to exercise their power as citizens.
