How do schools work in India?

Major schools native to India include Delhi Public School (DPS), Podar International School (PIS), National Public School (NPS), and many more, out of which I’ve been to a few. Schools in India vary from location to location, in terms of timings, food, and more. Some schools start as early as 7:00 am, and some so late (for us, that is) at 9:00 am, while others end at 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, which gets really late. Some schools in rural areas let children go home for lunch and then come back.

India offers many school boards, mainly CBSE, ICSE (ISC), IB, and IGCSE (Cambridge). These boards are made for people of all walks of life in India and abroad. IGCSE is for those who come from overseas, I.B. is for those who want an international learning experience without the hefty prices, and CBSE and ICSE are the first curricula of education in India.

School periods differ from state to state: in Uttar Pradesh, schools start in April, when the cold weather has gone, while in Karnataka, every school has a summer break at the start of April to save students from intense heat, but all schools give a holiday for Diwali.

Languages also differ from one state to another. For example, all schools in urban areas are English-based, while some schools in rural areas are based on local languages (e.g., Hindi, Kannada, Tamil).

Many major school groups in India host Model United Nations (MUN) events. It’s where a bunch of selected students come together in committees such as the UNSC & UNHRC to debate topics related to global dilemmas.

Many schools offer a wide range of sports, from Football to Shooting; these schools include every sport you can imagine. Many clubs are also part of these schools, the most famous ones being NCC (National Cadet Corps) and Scouts & Guides.
