Who am I?

My name is Srinath and I currently work as Manager (Data Science) at Simon-Kucher & Partners. I’m a computational biologist by training (PhD.) and a data scientist by practice for 9 years now.

What’s this post about?

This would be my first ever blog on Medium (or anywhere for that matter)! So, this would be my “Hello World” moment in the blogging world. After many years of contemplating and pondering, finally I dare to start writing. I’ve been reading and learning from countless articles on Medium and after having heard (and been inspired) by Khuyen Tran on the Super Data Science podcast it’s time to write and give it back to the community.

What will I be writing about?

The next logical question would be — what am I going to write about? There are some amazing articles on state-of-the-art topics in data science, machine learning, deep learning, etc. on medium. I’m one of the beneficiaries of these articles on Medium which has significantly improved my knowledge on these topics and immensely helped me in my work.

My plan is to start off with the basics and then move onto advanced topics of data science & robotic process automation, from a practical perspective. Here are some of the topics I want to write, with examples and accompanying codes/screenshots.

  1. how to load, process, transform and analyze data in R,
  2. how to develop machine learning models in R
  3. Python vs R — from my experience
  4. how to automate simple tasks in Excel using VBA
  5. how to automate simple tasks outside Excel using Sikuli
  6. … and hopefully many more topics…

With #1 and #2, I want to create a chronological journey for any student/beginner/enthusiast, even with no prior background in these topics, to go through my posts and quickly get started with the data science journey. In other words, my posts would act as a 101 course for each of these topics.

As far #4 & #5 are concerned, these are the new favorites that I’ve learned over the last couple of years (accelerated by the pandemic). These tools can be used to automate any mundane, repetitive tasks to save a ton of time and improve productivity.

Conclusion

I look forward to my writing journey with vivid thoughts and expectations of significant learning through feedback from earnest readers and topic experts.
