Manuela, this description only just scrapes the surface of what Managed File Transfer (MFT) really is. MFT systems provide organisations with a way of centralising and securing all their file transfers. This might be as a gateway for external trading partners, or moving data internally, between remote offices or to cloud storage and SaaS platforms.

Yes it provides security in many different ways from the secure protocols for encryption in transit, file encryption for data at rest, white lists and black lists to ensure you only send/receive data with the right partners and much, much more.

Essentially MFT provides a single pane of glass view of your organisations file transfers, and if any SLA’s are associated with those transfers — and one fails, then the software can retry or the business can be notified.

Of course, in recent times MFT solutions have extended their reach to no only cater for incoming ad-hoc transfers via web forms, secure emails, drop off portals but they have added transformation capabilities to ensure the data received if manipulated to the file type/format and structure of the receiving system — adding significantly more value.

I could go on… as you’ll probably guess MFT has been my thing for some time! :)
