Goldie Hawn has had a prodigious career in Hollywood. Many of us remember her from her days on Laugh-in. Beyond that, Goldie has had a ton of memorable movies.
In addition to her TV and movie career, her relationship with Kurt Russell has garnered a lot of attention. She and Kurt currently have the longest unmarried relationship in Hollywood. Obviously, based on these first two paragraphs, I went into this without knowing a lot about Goldie. After doing some research, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Goldie Hahn.
1: Though they have been together for 40 years there have been occasions when Goldie has been linked with other men.
About her and Kurt Russell not planning on getting married, she has indicated that she and Russell chose to stay together and they do not feel that marriage “cements” a relationship. And neither does just living together.
2: Goldie posed for the cover of Playboy at the age of 39. That was in January of 1985.
Since then, Playboy has expanded its horizons. Coming soon the “Nursing Home Fun Girls” edition.
3: She will show up unannounced to her childhood home in Maryland, much to the chagrin of the home’s current owners.
I’m not sure it would help if she brought Kurt with her.
4: Goldie had an unpleasant experience with cartoonist, Al Capp, at the age of 19.
Goldie was a dancer at the New York World’s Fair and was spotted by a pimp who brought her to Capp who exposed himself to her and came on to her. Goldie thought she was going for an audition. Goldie might have been looking for exposure, but not that kind.
5: Laugh-In co-star, Judy Carne was allegedly so jealous of Goldie she turned to cocaine.
Judy also married Burt Reynolds. I’m not sure what’s responsible for that.
6: She auditioned for 1968’s Romeo and Juliet.
Her audition was reportedly a disaster. It probably would have gone better if she had auditioned for the role of Juliet.
7: Goldie is aging gracefully and encourages others to do the same.
I too am trying to age gracefully. I walk around with my pinky finger extended. Of course that’s mostly due to arthritis.
8: She tried her hand at singing. In 1971 she released a country LP for Warner Brothers called, “Goldie.”
It didn’t go well. Going from Laugh-In to Country music seems like quite a leap.
9: She first met Kurt Russell when filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1968. She was 21 and Kurt was 16 so there weren’t sparks flying at that time.
However, Kurt may have been taking notes.
10: Her family calls her GoGo. Which works out because she got her big break as a GoGo dancer on Laugh-In.d
Goldie was actually trained as a ballet dancer. I wonder why Laugh-In didn’t have her do that?
11: “Goldie” is her real first name.
I mean, what would Goldie be a form of? Golda? Like Golda Meir? Goldie wasn’t named after Golda Meir just in case you wondered. But Goldie is Jewish.
