Epimnestic Cytologion: The Parable of the Renshaw Cell

Ἦτο μία φορά Κίνησις γενναία, ἡ ὁποία κατήρχετο ἀπὸ τὸν Νουν ὡς βούλησις, διερχόταν τὸν Μυελὸν ὡς σπινθὴρ, καὶ ἤγγιζε τὸ Μυικὸν Σῶμα ὡς πράξις.

Ἡ ταχύτης ἦτο δύναμις. Ἡ σύσπαση, ὕμνος τῆς θελήσεως.

Ὅμως, ὅταν ἡ Πράξις ἐπαναλαμβάνετο ἄνευ ἀναστολῆς, ὁ Μυς ἤρχετο εἰς κόπωσιν. Ἡ Κίνησις ἐγίνετο σπασμὸς, καὶ ἡ Ὁρμὴ μετατρέπετο εἰς βλάβην.

Καὶ τότε ἐντός τοῦ κυκλώματος, ἐμφανίσθη εἷς μικρὸς λειτουργός. Οὐκ ἤρχετο ἔξωθεν, ἀλλ’ ἐκ τοῦ ἴδιου τοῦ Νευρῶνος.

Τὸ Κύτταρον Ρένσοου.

Ἦτο ὁ μόνος ποὺ εἶχεν ἐξουσία νὰ λέγῃ εἰς τὸν Ἀποστολέα: “Φθάνει.”

Οὐκ ἐσταμάτα τὴν Κίνησιν ὡς ἐχθρὸς, ἀλλὰ ἐκύκλωνε τὴν Ὁρμὴν ὡς μέτρον. Καὶ ὁ Νεῦρον, ὁ κραταιός, ἐδέχετο ἀπὸ τὸν ἑαυτόν του τὴν ἀνάγκην τῆς παύσεως.

Ὁ Μυελὸς ἐψιθύρισε: «Ἐντός τοῦ ἴδιου ἀνθίζει ὁ ἔλεγχος. Καὶ ἡ Πράξις, ἂνευ συνείδησης τοῦ ὁρίου, εἶναι βία.»

ΧΑΡΑΞΙΣ ἐπὶ τῆς Φαιᾶς Οὐσίας

Ὁ Παλμός φέρει Πράξιν. Ἀλλ’ ἡ Σοφία, ἐπιστρέφει καὶ ἀναστέλλει.

Τὸ Κύτταρον Ρένσοου εἶναι ἡ φωνὴ τοῦ Μέτρου ἐντός τοῦ ἴδιου τοῦ Θέλοντος.

Epimnestic Cytologion: The Parable of the Renshaw Cell

Once there was a noble Motion, descending from the Mind as will, passing through the Spinal Cord as spark, and touching the Muscle as deed.

Speed was its power. Contraction, its hymn of intention.

But when the Act repeated without restraint, the Muscle began to tire. The Movement became spasm, and Impulse turned to harm.

Then, within the circuit, appeared a small servant. He came not from outside, but from the neuron itself.

The Renshaw Cell.

It was the only one with the authority to say to the Sender: “Enough.”

It did not halt Movement as an enemy, but circled Impulse as Measure. And the Neuron, mighty as it was, received from itself the necessity of pause.

The Spinal Cord whispered: “Within oneself blooms control. And Action, without awareness of its limits, becomes violence.”

INSCRIPTION upon the Gray Matter

Impulse delivers Deed. But Wisdom returns and restrains.

The Renshaw Cell is the voice of Measure inside the very heart of Willing.
