By Bhoomika

Hii everybody! welcome to the ninth chapter of the skin script . Here, we talk about some easily available ,budget friendly , and most importantly toxin-free natural products and what is their sources ,availability ,chemical composition, benefits, how to use and requisite precautions to be taken to avoid any harm to your skin

Our today’s ingredient is Red lentil. When we think of red lentils, we often picture hearty soups or nutritious meals — but did you know these humble legumes can work wonders for your skin too?

Red lentils, or masoor dal, have been a staple in Ayurvedic beauty treatments for centuries. Packed with skin-loving nutrients, they’re making a comeback in natural and DIY skincare circles

Where Do Red Lentils Come From?

Red lentils (Lens culinaris) are grown in many parts of the world, but their skincare use has strong roots in South Asian traditions — particularly in India, where they’ve been used in Ayurvedic beauty rituals for centuries.

Major Producers of Red Lentils are India, Nepal, Canada, Turkey

Chemical Composition

Red lentils are primarily composed of carbohydrates (approximately 55–63%), followed by protein (around 24–29%), and a smaller amount of fat (3–5%). They also contain fiber (about 5%), ash (2–3%), and are a good source of various minerals like iron, zinc, and potassium.

Skin Benefits of Red Lentils

1. Natural Exfoliator: Ground red lentils gently slough off dead skin cells without stripping natural oils. This helps unclog pores, brighten the skin, and promote a smoother texture.

2. Rich in Antioxidants: Red lentils are high in polyphenols and other antioxidants that fight free radical damage — one of the main culprits behind premature aging.

3. Oil Control & Acne Reduction: Their natural absorbent properties help soak up excess oil, making them ideal for oily and acne-prone skin. Red lentils also have antibacterial effects that can reduce breakouts.

4. Skin Brightening: Regular use of red lentil masks can help lighten dark spots and even out skin tone thanks to their gentle bleaching and exfoliating effects.

5. Soothing & Anti-Inflammatory: They can calm irritated or sensitive skin when combined with soothing ingredients like yogurt, honey, or aloe vera.

FACE PACKS

Used in face packs, scrubs, and hair masks — red lentil powder (or soaked paste) blends beautifully with yogurt, milk, or rose water for glowing results. Fun fact? Ancient Indian queens reportedly used lentil pastes as part of their beauty rituals!

PRECAUTIONS

Just a quick caution — always do a patch test, as its strong nature might irritate sensitive skin.

Okay , this is it for today our ninth affair of THE SKIN SCRIPT . Hopefully you enjoyed it and got to burst some myths about Red lentil. So, meet you soon with another day another Affair and another hero element .

Till the time keep growing and glowing ! your captain signing off!!
