On a hot summer evening, warm breeze on my skin, Piercing waves in the distance rose a large dorsal fin. I paddled my surfboard, towards the welcoming shore - My mind grew worried as I felt a rip I had not noticed before
The fin was closing on me, my progress was too slow, And I was praying to my God, “Jesus, let me escape what lurks below!” Then I saw an Angel and she stayed by my side, So I stood up on my surfboard and rode in with the tide
My eyes were focused on the beach Just up ahead within my reach, Then the fin rose from the wave - Would I face an ocean grave?
Such a sad, sad fate (such a sad, sad fate) - Is it too late? But then, exploding from the swell, a dolphin joined me for the ride, My poor heart was beating fast, thinking I could have died
My mind jumped to conclusions that it was a shark - Vivid imaginings, monsters in the dark - So I reached the shoreline and ran to my towel, Feeling grateful and relieved, my fate did not prove foul
And still, the ocean is calling me every day, Waking in the middle of the night just to hear it say, “Go grab your surfboard, and come ride my waves Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) - You won’t leave a trace
Come live it up on a beach in Honolulu - What a nice sunrise (what a nice sunrise,) Bring your small white lies” - Cocktails on the jetty, Piña Colada — chilled, And it said, “Live out your desires right here, until they’re filled”
And in the ocean’s depths, the waves rise and fall, They will not stop tempting me, until I answer the call
I just cannot ignore it, I must even the score, I have to make the journey back to the waves I rode before - “Relax,” said Poseidon, “Your absence I have grieved, You can wipe out any time you like, but you can never leave”
