If They Came Back Today, Would You Really Say Yes?

Sometimes we don’t miss the person — we miss the version of ourselves that existed before the goodbye.

I keep coming back to this question.

If they came back today… would I really say yes?

A part of me already knows the answer.

I think I would.

But then another question quietly follows —

Would it be the right choice?

Isn’t it strange?

The person I once loved the most is standing at my door, asking to come back…

And instead of running into their arms, I’m standing there, thinking.

Not because I don’t love them.

But because I’m no longer the person who watched them leave.

Maybe that’s what time does.

It doesn’t always make you stop loving someone.

It just teaches you to love yourself enough to ask better questions.

“Missing someone and choosing them again are two very different things.”

Sometimes I wonder if I miss them…

Or the version of me that existed before the goodbye.

The one who believed forever was a promise.

The one who didn’t know how much love could change a person.

Maybe we don’t want our past back.

Maybe we just want to feel the way we once did.

And that’s what makes this question so difficult.

Because the heart remembers the warmth.

The mind remembers the reason it ended.

So tell me —

If the person you once loved the most knocked on your door today…

Would you open it?

Or would you quietly thank them for the memories and choose the peace you found without them?
